I think I may need my kpro board swapped

Post by rocket280z »

2002 US spec ep3
6643
Kmanager
2068-301213
4.0.8.0
K20A2 with a CAI, header was added after problems existed.
ClubRSX before it became kseries parts. It was 2009.

The car was used to jump start another car, and the clamps touched each other, briefly, while connected to the battery. When leaving the Autocross, I noticed the idle doing weird oscillations. Mysteriously going up to 1300rpm, and back down just one time, occasionally. With there being no reason, such as the fan coming on.

Replaced TPS and MAP with known good ones, to no affect.

More concerning is what's shown in the datalog. Upon opening the throttle quickly, particularly at lower rpms, the rpms go up and down irradically within a 300ish rpm range. Kind of like if you don't have the overrun cutoff setup properly. Except I had it setup as good as it could be, and it would never do that no matter what, before that day. I have tried retuning all kinds of parameters and nothing makes it run the way it used to. It is at it's worst using tunes made before that day.

So, even though there are no codes, it seems my ECU got damaged slightly. KPRO seems ok, uploading and everything else works as it used to.
shows occilation upon throttle opening around 2500 rpm.kdl

Start by downloading the most recent version of software as the version you have listed is over a year old.

Upload a saved calibration from your laptop to the ECU and see if that resolves any of the issues.

You might also try cleaning your idle control valve.

Before throwing more parts and money at the car, try your ECU in someone else's car with their calibration loaded and see if it runs their car properly.

Ok, I forgot to post that I cleaned and replaced my IACV too.

The problem happened about 4yrs ago, so yeah, I have tried many calibrations, and adjustments to those calibrations. I seriously have hundreds of hours in tuning, and research, to resolve the issue. As well as many different versions of kmanager. No difference to these issues.

I don't know anyone else with a kseries powered vehicle, otherwise I would have.

I was hoping someone here could look at the datalog/kal and see that something's not right.

The K-Pro board itself will not have anything to do with the way the car is running. If anything it will be your ECU, and the only way you will be able to rule this out is to try swapping your K-pro into someone else's ECU. I would recommend using Facebook or forums to try and find someone in your area to do some testing with. This will help you narrow down the issue.

Ok, that's exactly what I think needs to be done, although I would prefer to pay a company to do the swap. I'm a capable soldering vet though.

I have the impression that simply moving over the krpo board is not all that is necessary.

So, can I get instructions on how to do a complete krpo install please?

Just knowing how to do that should mean I can uninstall it, and setup ECU to run as stock and see if it works properly...

I would rather not use instructions, off the web, that I have no way of knowing if they're correct.

I'm sorry, but we don't send out instructions for installing K-Pro's. We either do it here or an authorized K-Pro installer from our website does them.
