Using Alpha N with ITBs, what is purpose of MAP?

Post by white_twin_cam »

Do you need MAP sensor plugged into K-pro even if using pure alpha-N with ITBs?
If so is it just as an atmospheric pressure reading or does it need to be in a vaccum accumulator?

I guess my main questions is, when using Alpha N what does MAP sensor reading get used for?

Thanks

You need the MAP, and it needs to read manifold pressure. TPS is only be used to approximate manifold pressure for fueling and the MAP is used in the rest of the ECU routine.

Do you mean when using Alpha-N Throttle Position Sensor is only used for fuelling and not timing! I have a race engine and assumed I could use Kpro for a normal TPS based tune. With individual throttle bodies the MAP readings are close to useless even with a block.

So it is not possible with kpro to run a normal Alpha n fuel/ ignition map? As in throttle position /rpm versus fuel/timing? And the MAP sensor always has to be used? What is the benefit in having an Alpha N option in this case?

Sorry if I have got confused.

Thanks

No, with alpha N the TPS is used for timing. There are hundreds of tables in the ECU that still use MAP. eg overrun cutoff. You need a MAP signal for that.

Ah okay so there are other tables that need the MAP signal. That makes sense. Thanks for reply.
