tip-in ignition retard

Post by pepperdanky »

Would you recommend setting this to -100% in all gears?

I set my overrun MAP values low enough that it only activates based on TPS to try to improve tip-in. With the tip-in retard at stock values, I get a hesitation when gently tipping in to the throttle, say 0-5%, in the lower gears especially (6th gear feels fine). The exhaust also makes a burbling sound as if there is unburnt fuel passing though; car is stock besides the FlashPro. If I go from 0 to 20%, there is no hesitation and tip-in feels very smooth.

I tried setting all the gears to -100% for the ignition retard but started getting knock counts on tip-in, mostly when rev matching. However, this seemed to smooth out the tip-in response at very slight throttle openings.

Is there anything else I can do to improve the tip-in? Is the tip-in knock anything to worry about?

It is hard to say as you've changed multiple parameters at once. If you post the calibration and datalog I'll look at it. Often it is the cam rotating back to zero which gives to slight hesitation when shifting.

Please see the attached files. I was only able to capture 1 knock upon downshifting in the -100% tip in log this time.

In VTC parameters uncheck 'Zero VTC upon decel fuel cut' and check 'Use VTC tables upon decel fuel cut'.
The fuel and ignition doesn't look too bad.

Thanks, that also improved tip-in.

Is it preferred to use VTC tables on decel rather than set the tip-in retard to -100%?

Use the VTC tables in decel regardless; there is no downside and it stops the hesitation when shifting where the cam has to advance back from 0 to 20 degrees or so.
As for tip in retard probably have a look at new datalogs and see what the ignition goes down to. On the datalogs you posted the ignition stayed at 20 degrees, so I'd leave it as it is, unless it knocks.

Hi Pepperdanky,

What is your experience of the tip-in feature if changed?
It is good to adjust?

Hi there,

For normal driving, setting the tip-in retard to -100% feels much smoother if you do a lot of on/off throttle. With spirited driving, I found that it made my shifts jerkier; maybe I just didn't give it enough time for me to adjust my driving. I also noticed that sometimes I would get a knock count when blipping the throttle to downshift.

It appears that there are other adjustments that haven't been made available:

I wonder why the gear compensation is different between the US/Euro/Asia calibrations and how Honda decided what these values should be. I'm guessing the hidden tables are also different?

Sorry for rolling up this thread.
In which base calibration this values can be viewed?

I tried to figure it out a total throttle smoothness for the DW800 injectors. In my case if the throttle goes on/off shortly, you can feel a little "kick-in" if press the gas pedal...
The kick-in is in the rpm-range: 2000 to 3300rpm and a little bit annoying driving in the city stop-n-go...

Calibration: RSP based calibration - MAF will be used to determine fuel until 1bar.
