Car Gets Really Hot When Idling

Post by keto06 »

Hey guys, so Ive only had my car a couple weeks now and to get to know it better I bought a flashpro to do some datalogging.

Took it out for a drive tonight (~70* outside) and while waiting in line at the drive through I noticed my car got really hot (217*)

Is this normal for these cars? It was still below halfway but Im used to Hondas with ECTs in the 170-180 range.

It wasnt knocking, and seemed to cool back down once the car was moving, but I felt like thats way too hot for the car to be idling at.

Maybe Im wrong. Pic/Log for reference. Any help would be appreciated.

Normal. The ECT should be around 185 when cruising, but on a hot day with the AC on and stopped in traffic you can see 225F.
Stock temperature gauges have a huge null point from about 160-235F, where the needle / lights sits as a reassuring 40% of full scale, so that owners don't freak out from the normal temperature swings.
Personally I think the 2012+ Civic is a better idea, where there is just a dash light that shows cold or overheated. That's all the stock temperature gauge will do anyhow.
