Analog Inputs - Oil Temp Sensor

Post by TheCake »

This has most likely been covered before but hell, I searched and I searched and couldn't find the answer.

I've found a resistive 0-5v analogue input fluid temperature sender to use with my Hondata S300 v3 (it's on it's way to CA for upgrade as I type). Over here in the UK Demon Tweeks sell the STACK resistive analogue sensor 0-150 degrees.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorspor ... ure-sensor

As you can see it has two spade connections on the sensor:
How would this wire up to the S300? Power and Signal? Earth and Signal/power combined? I couldn't be sure...
Will the S300 come back with the input ribbon connection to attach these inputs and if not, where can I source one from?

Thanks everyone. Appreciate the comments and assistance to a relative newbie.

The temperature is probably a thermistor, which has a resistance which varies with temperature.
You could wire it from a 5V supply with a series resistor to limit current, and then input the voltage between the sensor and series resistor to the s300.
However the problem you'll find is that the thermistor output is not linear with temperature, so the straight voltage to value conversion the s300 uses will not work.
There should be a specification sheet for the sensor which give the resistance.

I think I see what you're getting at. Unfortunately I can't find a data sheet for this sensor.

Do you have a preferred fluid sensor that meets the requirements to directly connect to the S300? I could not find such a thing on the online shop but if you know a part I can try and get one this side of the pond.

Many thanks.

The PLX SM-Fluid Temp module works. It has both an analog and digital output.

Thanks guys. Now I have my S300 back from the states (upgrade) and we are installing the loom its something I really need to sort out. :) I'll have a look at the PLX system and come back to you.
