Still waiting on an answer as to why the cam angle shows -20 degrees when running with VTC off. I have checked timing on my old engine and it is exactly the same, when the cams are lined up at TDC the crank pulley shows just off the TDC mark by about 1/4 of an inch. Would like some help here on what I should do next. Cam sensor marks are aligned perfectly so there problem with the cams out of time with each other. Do I go ahead and change the timing by one or two teeth? I can't see that little difference making up 20 degrees of cam timing.

Just an update for anyone who may be going through the same problem, i replaced my timing chain and now all problems are gone, no knock and cam does not go into the negative. I see intake cam adjusting all the way to 25 degrees as well. Holding both chains up to each other i would not have guessed this to be the problem as the old one did not seem very stretched. Just because its a low mileage engine, the timing can still be way out.

Yes it was the one base kal file for the k24 that was the issue for me. I put a header on the same time I did the timing chain so I used the TSX hytech header kal and that's why I thought the problem was fixed. When I tried another kal it was back to negative again. I couldn't figure out why but it happens when the cam was instructed to advance almost right off of an idle. All I had to do was barely touch the throttle pedal and I would see a negative value. I changed my cam table to advance a bit later on engine load and rpm from idle and the problem was gone, and I could get to 25 degrees max cam angle. Seems like a glitch in the program to me. I could not feel any difference in performance with it but I was just happy not to see the negative cam value in the datalog anymore.
Hope this helps you figure it out.

And as far as the knock problem, the header, cold air intake and better tuning fixed that.
