kpro write error faulty board
kpro write error faulty board
Hi,
I bought a kpro as part of a group buy of 3 a couple of years back. I did not use mine for over 6 months because I was putting the K24 in an Elise which took a long time in my spare time. When I got around to using it the car ran fine and I can read the data from it however when I try to write to it it says there is an error. However it seems the data actually writes!? The most annoying thing is the data logging does not work properly and adjustments while it is running..
So I contacted the supplier (http://www.cplracing.co.uk/) who said they would look at it and as expected charged me a considerable amount to look at it and to post it back to me still partly working. They told me I had damaged it and to fix it would cost me most of the cost of the original conversion. After quizzing them about how I had damaged it I was told that maybe the battery voltage had been too low when I tried to write to it. Clearly this is total ..... Clearly they had not bothered to test the kpro before shipping it to me in the first place.
Out of disgust and principle at the time I bought a standalone ecu and used that instead of the kpro...
Now 18 months later I still have this semi useless kpro I want to fix it as I am an electronic engineer. I am going to see if it is a dry joint or cracked resistor etc on the board. Does anyone have a schematic or list of component values I can use to compare? I am doing a civic ep3 turbo build and would rather use this ecu rather than buy something else.
If anyone can help it would be great thanks
Phil

Re: kpro write error faulty board
What is the serial number? Who did the preparation of the ECU for the KPro? What wiring harness was in use?
It is not uncommon for engine swaps for the ECU outputs to be shorted to power and burn out. Did CPL say exactly what was wrong?

Re: kpro write error faulty board
Hi,
The number on the kpro PCB is 10233
CPL did the conversion and it was first tested on a perfect 2002 ep3 civic which ran fine but gave the write error. I thought nothing of it at the time because I spoke to CPL who told me maybe had not installed the software on my PC properly and they would talk me through installing the software on the PC over the phone. By the time I had time to do this it was past 6 months by this time I found out the warranty had expired. I have done the wiring on 5 kpro lotus's and never managed to break one yet.
All the lady on the phone could tell me is I had damaged it and just said maybe I had tried to program it with low battery voltage. I know from being an electronic engineer myself that this is just guessing from someone who has no idea. I tried several times to work something out with them but no joy.
Thanks
Phil

Re: kpro write error faulty board
What is the exact error message you are getting?
Re: kpro write error faulty board
Hi just comes up with an error box that says "upload failed"
I just took this video of first downloading from the ecu than trying to upload again.

Re: kpro write error faulty board
Have you tried going to the online menu and clicking on Erase ECU?
Re: kpro write error faulty board
Hi yes I have been through everything in the past with it even while on the phone to cplracing. I even ;tried it on 4 different computers.
Here is a video I just took to show what happens:
http://youtu.be/BxI-gydMyPE
I think it is some form of memory checking issue because data does actually write to the ecu because if I make a change it does actually read out of the ecu with the change made.
Thanks
Phil

Re: kpro write error faulty board
With everything plugged in and the key in the on position, go to the help menu and click on send information to Hondata support. Include a description of the problem and your email address.

Done,

Re: kpro write error faulty board
Have you tried this K-Pro board in a known working ECU that also has K-Pro?
Re: kpro write error faulty board
Yes tried my kpro board in a friends and his kpro board in mine.
My kpro board in his ecu exhibits exactly the same errors.

Re: kpro write error faulty board
The K-Pro board does sounds like it has been damaged in some way and would need to be replaced. You are looking at a cost of about $325 which includes shipping to replace it. If this is something you want to do let us know and we will give you further instructions.
Re: kpro write error faulty board
Ok. still feel a bit hard done to when I believe whatever the issue was down to the installer not testing it before shipping however it is cheaper than other options I have.
Do I have to send you the ecu or will you just ship me another piggyback board?
