EGT temps

Post by 2kblusiguy »

I have a B20 with Type-R head w/Valve guides cut back slight porting, custom valves, Type-R intake, Hondata Gasket - port matched, 70 mm TB, AEM CAI, 10.4:1 comp, JDM 4-1, CTR cams.

MY question is: What kind of EGT temps are people seeing at cruise.

3000rpm - 60 mph - 1400F - 14.7 a/f
3400rpm - 70 mph - 1450F - 14.7 a/f

This is what I see on mine, I have played with timing and fuel but can not get it lower then those numbers.

I know that your EGT will be the highest at stoich but is this too high...???

thanks

That sounds about right. Is you gauge tapped 3-4" from the head?

I'm sure your car goes open loop when it gets near 1550-1600F on cruse.?

Yes my EGT is close to the head. I have a sensor on CYL 2 and 3. they are both about two inches from the head. I have played around with the timing in the highway cruise area and have got it to stay around 1425-1440 at 75 or so. but that is about as low as i can get it thus far. as far as the 1550-1600 temp, i never see anything that high. on a full power pass i see 1300-1325. which is about perfect. I would like to see 1380, but that will take a little tuning. I'm not big into the dyno thing because, of all the variables that can throw you off, so i prefer road testing with actual loads on the engine, that the engine will see. it seems to work pretty good for me, so far and a whole lot cheaper. thanks

ya, timing has a lot to do with EGT temps, as well as location. What kind of timing are you running?

As far as Timing, I am from about 3,000 rpm's up around 45 degrees, under low load cruise condition, 3-4 column.

with these settings I see about 1410 f, at 70 mph.
