2005 Base Speedometer not working

Post by Link. »

Hello everyone,

Vehicle: 2005 Acura RSX Base Model (5 Speed)
KPro Serial Number: 14612
Software Version: 3.1.1.0
ECU part number: 37820 - PRB - 305
Serial number: 2054 - 101475
KManager Version: 3.3.1
Calibration: k20a3-civic-factoryFinal (attached)
Datalog of Problem: 1st Datalog (attached)
Engine Mods: Intake, Exhaust, Shorty Header, 02-04 O2 Sensor
KPro Buying Info: Bought from Hondata dealer in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada called Performance Plus.

Alright, So I installed the 02-04 O2 sensor into my 2005 RSX and installed the KPro'd ECU with 05-06 adaptor harness into my car. I loaded the Base K20A3 factory calibration and it started the first time, but the speedometer didn't work, and I also received a check engine light with the code "107-1 / P0661 / Intake Manifold Runner Control Low Voltage". So, instead I did some research and loaded the factory calibration for a Civic SI. It fixed the check engine light (I realize that this means that I only get single intake runners), but the speedometer still doesn't work.

After some more research, I found that I needed to check off the Countershaft VSS so that my speedometer could work. I did so, but no luck. Now, I realized after looking at the ECU serial number that it is in fact a PRB ECU (for a Type-S) and I have a base model. I'd imagine that this means the internals of my Kpro are actually wired for a Type S and not a Base model, which is why my speedometer still isn't working. It sounds like I actually need a PND ECU so that my Kpro can actually work.

Therefore, my question becomes: Is there any calibration or tune that I can use with the PRB ECU to allow my speedometer to work, or do I have to send my ECU in to Hondata to get it swapped out for a Kpro'd PND ECU?

Any help appreciated,
Thanks,

-Ryan.

Take a high resolution picture of the inside of the ECU. Make sure it is in focus and post it here.

Forgive me for the spam. But I'm leaving for work for the next 10 days, so I snapped a whole bunch. Are these what you need?

First of all you are using a PNF calibration which does not have the correct VSS output option. Use a PND or PRB based calibration. You must also have the countershaft driven speed sensor selected and upload the calibration to the ECU.

The datalog you have provided does not even appear to be from a vehicle that is moving, it looks like it is just idling.

The ECU appears to be prepared correctly for in 05/06 RSX.

The datalog is from my car idling. I apologize. I didn't realize it needed to moving. I guess I probably should have because its a speedometer problem. Regardless, I had the PND 05-06 Base RSX calibration running with the Vss counter shaft option checked off and it still didn't work. In addition, it also had a check engine light problem.

When I get home from working in the field (on the 15th or so) I'll send you guys a proper datalog with the Base Calibration and VSS countershaft option checked off for you to see.
