Limp mode, CEL and datalog error. Read all related posts.

Post by 2.4_turbo »

- 2004 Honda Civic SE
- K-Pro # 05007886
- ECU part # 37820-PRB-A06 and serial# 2068-603753 0A22
- KManager version 3.2.4
- Unable to Datalog anything
- Motor is a pretty much stock K20A2 with a CAI and LTH

So, car still runs and drives fine just won't revv over 4000rpm. CEL came on at the same time, so I went to check codes but won't work. When I click datalog, where it says "online" turns to "error" almost immediately. I've checked to ensure proper plugs... I moved my ground from the manifold to the valve cover... Tried a new calibration... Cleared securities and new calibration... I'm at a lose right now, don't know what to do. Any help would be great as this is my DD at the movement.

There is a problem with the KPro communicating with the ECU. Check the KPro board is secure and has not been over-tightened so that it bends.

Is this a new installation? Has the ECU run before with the KPro?

No it's not new. About 6 weeks ago I put it in the car for the first time and it wouldn't connect with my laptop. Ended up sending it to you guys for repair. When I got it back it worked perfect, drove flawlessly for about a month and now this.

There is something in the wiring which is damaging the ECU / KPro. You need to track down and fix this.

Check your spark plugs are resistor type plugs.

Do not use a power inverter in the car to run a laptop, as the USB current can damage the KPro.

Double check the entire swap harness.

Check that all engine grounds (transmission, timing cover, valve cover) are present. Remove and clean under each bolt down to bare metal. Check current flows between the ECU & USB to battery negative to check if a ground wire is missing or broken somewhere.

I'd suggest testing your ECU in another vehicle is possible to see if the KPro has been damaged again. Email support@hondata.com for a RMA if it has.

Any plugs works as long as they are resistor plugs. The only real difference between copper, platinum & iridium is how long they last.

On a k series, you can't go wrong with ngk iridiums. Just make sure you get the ones gapped for the appropriate engine. Just to be clear; you cannot gap iridiums. All you can do is verify the factory gap....which I highly suggest.
