idle around 1500 and lean at idle

Post by 98preludeJRSCh22 »

hello every one. new to the hondata thing. i loaded a tune into my car yesterday and it idles high (around 1300-1500) and sitting at idle the A/F will be high 16's low 17's. other than that the car runs good. crusing down the road the a/f is around 14.6-15.3. at full throttle in 3rd gear it goes to 12.3-12.5 and when vtec pulls in it will go to 11.8-12.0. any ideas on what i need to change to get the idle back down and a/f lower at idle? thanks in advance.

Have you tried making changes to the idle section of parameters?

yes. i set the idle to 850 and adjusted the IAC duty cycle down some and it did not changed anything. i used the fuel tables from the h22 supercharged 550 injector setup you loaded on the calibrations sections. every thing else seems to work perfect except idle and lean at idle. i will check to make sure the purge valve has been inverted when i get home from work

also was doign some reading on the site. thought i should let you know that my cold idle valve has been bypassed (no coolant flowing through it) think this could be causing a problem? i dont see how since it was working before i loaded the different fuel tables, but i have seen stranger things lol. thanks again

drove to work this morning and when i got here i let the engine idle and unplugged the IAC and it didnt change a thing. i noticed that the lean at idle has to do with the RPM. the RPM dropped to about 1100-1200 last night and thea/f cam down to around 15.3 (as per AEM widebnd). also thought you should know that i am currently running the car in open loop mode until i can get afr's where i want them in open loop then i will try to switch to closed loop and see what happens. the afr's shown on the data log at 13.8 at idle and goes down to 12.0-12.2 at WOT. should i trust the afr's on the wideband gauge or whats showing on the datalog? again i am new to this hondata thing and there are no tuners within 4 hours of me. i am trying to learn as i go. i just want the afr's to be safe and have a little fun with the car (no expecting to go fast just some thing to play with)
.

You need to follow the Factory service manual for setting your idle. This involves disconnecting the IACV when it is up to temp and using the adjustment screw on the throttle body to to get it to the target idle.

When you have the offsets set correctly the readings should be the same.

just an update! looked at my calibration and had the purge valve inverted. turned it back to normal operation and the rpm dropped. idling at 900-1000 now. i think i can adjust it the rest of the way with the air bypass and idle screws. thanks for the help spunkster
