VTC angle spikes

Post by dropdeadrus »

- JDM Integra DC5
- K24A2 with I/H/E, K20 oil pump, ATI Damper
- K-Pro v2 #3863
- PNF ECU
- KManager v3.2.5

I noticed that VTC CAM angle has sudden spikes after ~6300 RPM at WOT, CAM differs from CAMCMD by 3-5 degrees
like this:

Is it OK or something is wrong?

It is not normal. Caused by a mechanical issue with the valve-train or oil system.

thank you for your reply.

what exactly can cause this issue?
K20 oil pump is brand new, installed a week ago, but I've seen these spikes with my old K24 pump too.

is it VTC gear, VTC strainer, VTC solenoid?
or maybe is it related to cam chain/chain tensioner?

please note that there are no DTCs, and these spikes occur only at WOT after ~6200-6400 RPM, at all other times CAM is perfectly following CAMCMD.

It could be the VTC gear, VTC solenoid, VTC filter, chain / chain tensioner, cams / rockers, VTC wiring or anything which effects the oil pressure.

I'd start by checking the VTC filter and then swapping out the VTC solenoid.

In a forum, one tuner writes that camshaft postiion sensor also make that spikes. I don't know if this is write or wrong.
