A dilemma I have

Post by EvaUnit01 »

Doug or anyone that can help,
I have a base (5 speed) RSX that I just recently bought a Type S engine to swap out. Among my plans for the engine is the K-pro or K100 for the ECU. When I bought the engine, it didnt come with the wiring harness. My question is this: Could I have my base RSX ECU flashed to Type S K-pro and still use the base RSX wiring harness?

You don't mention what harness you have, but the base and type S harnesses are the same. The base ECU lacks the reverse lockout, so the 4th-5th gearchange changes often stuck in no mans land at the start of the reverse plane. (reverse lockout is not to stop you engaging reverse).

Oops, forgot to mention that I am retaining the 5 speed transmission ( i like it better for some reason) So are you saying that I will have trouble going 4th to 5th then?

If you are keeping the 5 sp transmission then there is no advantage using the type S or type R ECU. The base ECU can be programmed as a type S for your application and will work ok.
