S300 worked for 10 minutes then stopped, Doesnt work now

Post by djarmyssg »

Ok guys, First, I things first, I'm pretty damn good at electronics. but heres my issue. Brand new install of S300 (By Me) used my buddies car to hook it up as I only have obd2. Opened up Smanager and it installed drivers and everything went perfectly. I uploaded a map, and was showing the cars owner all the features of the S300... then out of no where, It stopped datalogging, I tried to shut down everything, computer included and started from scratch. but nothing would happen. I can connect to the s300 and it says drivers installed and "ONLINE", I can read the serial numbers of the S300 and and the firmware data. I can upload a map to the S300, but it wont change ANYTHING with the ECU. I can drop ALL fuel table cells to 0 Reupload, and the car will run exactly the same. I can download the map from the S300, and it will still show Fuel table cells at 0.. But the ECU isn't reacting to it, and I get NO sensor data back on the screen. When I click on DATALOG, the Red D1 led flashes, but I dont get ANY D2 flash at all. We tried checking the codes by jumping the connector, and it stays solid (though he has a light on anyways cause of a knock sensor) The car seems to run decent... but I cant get this thing to work.... Any advice and help would be awesome.. I have already tested each pin to where it will go, and I get continuity across all.. Also, J12 is desoldered.. Thanks!`

Post a picture of the ECU socketing from the bottom and the top of the ECU.

What is the serial number on the s300 board inside the ECU? From Help, About, what version of software are you using?

SManager version is 2.2.7.0
and I believe the S300 Firmware was 2.1 (Not 100% sure... but it wouldnt let me update it so Im guessing it was whatever the latest version is)

I was wondering what the symptoms of a bad 74373 latch were... Im lost...

What kind of solder are you using? It does not look like it has flowed well into all the joints and the solder for R54 and J2 look like they may be cold solder joints. I also cannot tell from the picture but it looks like you have cut J1.

I'm using lead free solder.... I reflowed all the solder points yesterday when it stopped working... R54 is a 1k resistor correct? I have a bunch laying around, Maybe I'll pull R54 and J1 and redo them... But even with the S300 taken out, I was still getting a Code 0.. Any other ideas?

You should be using a 60PB/40SN solder. lead free will not flow well.

ok, so good chance its just a cold joint? Is there a easy way to narrow it down, Since I can read all the S300 information, "Upload" (even though it doesnt change the ECU) and download? I dont get any errors, It just doesnt change the way the ECU acts, and I get ZERO sensor data back... not even battery voltage..

This sounds like a problem with the ECU socketing and the ECU is not running off of the s300 the way it should.

Sounds about right to me.... While we were talking, I reflowed the solder again.... doing my best to make sure i didnt get any cold joints... I'll have to wait til friday to test it out, since I dont have a car to test on.. unless theres a way to jump power to the ECU?

You should wait to put it in a car so you can make sure it is working.

Just wondering... if I have to send it in... How much does that normally run?

Ok well a buddy of mine swung by just long enough for me to hook up the ECU... Still doing the same thing, but I did notice that when I datalogged the only sensors that showed ANY movement were the analog inputs they were flipping around .03-.07 Volts.... But other than that... nothing new...

How do the solder joints look at CN2? Are you still using lead free solder?

Well i havent removed any of the solder, so its still the led free stuff, but I did check each Pin and chip connector one by one for continuity to its test points on the ECU board itself.. Every connection has 0.1 Ohm, so that means the connections are good, so now that leads me to beliece theres a chip error.. Either a bad Latch chip, or the S300 board itself..My guess would be the RX line of the UART chip on s300 might be bad.. Not 100% sure, but I do know that the install is correct and the connections are good!
