K20A2 Swap and K-Pro

Post by Quick Silver »

Hello, I am gettin ready to do a K20A2 swap for my '04 Civic coupe. My local tuner, Group 5 Motorsport, will be doing the swap. I have some questions regarding this swap:

1. Will I still use my Civic key or do I need to get the RSX key from the engine I am getting?

2. What do I need to initially do with the RSX ECU before the swap is complete? Do I need to send the ECU, my Civic (or RSX) key and the immobolizer to Hondata for a reflash (#4)? I don't believe the car will start until the ECU, immobolizer and key have been reflashed.

3. I want the K-Pro kit. Can I by-pass the #4 reflash and go straight to the K-Pro?

4. My tuner has a concern about my car passing smog if we do any sort of ECU reflash. Can you please address this concern?

I greatly appreciate any and all assistance you can provide me.

The Civic key will work. If you use the RSX ECU then you will either need to disable the immobilizer (if using KPro), or take the car to Honda and get them to match the ECU to the key/immobilizer.

Don't send anything to us - contact a dealer. For a reflash we need a key/immobilizer/ECU which are matched (i.e. they will start the car). For a krpo we just need the ECU.

Yes.

Both the Reflash and KPro are not legal for use for highway use on an emission controlled vehicle. However both provide the same information as stock to scan tools and both will pass a sniffer test as long as you have a cat and keep the OBDII functions enabled.

Thank you kindly for the quick response. I have one last question regarding your following response:

You said that I would go to Honda to have them match the ECU to the key/immobolizer; since I will have an Acura ECU, don't you mean that I would take the car to Acura?

Thanks again for all your help. Oh, regarding not sending anything to you directly, I understand your policy on this and my local tuner, Group 5 Motorsport, would be sending you the equipment.

Either Honda or Acura will be able to match the ECU to key/immobilizer.

Hello, its me again. :) My RSX ECU was just sent to you (by an authorized retailer) so that you could add the K-Pro to it. I know that you stated above that I don't have to worry about having the key / immobolizer flashed to match the ECU because there is an option (which by default is disabled) to disable the immobolizer. My follow-up question to this is as follows:

Once the RSX ECU w/K-Pro is installed in my car, can I then go to a dealer and have them flash the key and immobolizer to match the ECU, or would this have a negative affect on the K-Pro (i.e., erase any standard programming, throw-off custom settings, etc.). Am I better off just leavin it alone and not havin the immobolizer enabled?

Updating the immobilizer part of the ECU will not affect the programming nor affect the KPro.

Hey Mod,

I have a question for you.

I have a USDM k20a2 Type S Swap in the EG 92 VX.
I am running honda data kpro.

anyways I was wondering Can I get the rsx key thing and enable the security immolizer process so anyone without the key cannot start my car..??

if they brake the ignition they still cant start it..
