ECU Fried?? :(

Post by BoostedFG2 »

Hey guys, so tonight i was out flashing my ecu with flashpro. while the calibration was uploading, i went to check on my injector clips cuz i thought they might be loose, i had one unplugged and sort of hanging, and accidentally had it touch my pliers. i assume it grounded out or somethng, and created an arc and some sparks and it scared the hell outta me, it lasted a split second.

Anyway i noticed my reflash never finished..so i checked and i saw the flashpro wasnt uploading anymore, the program light wasnt blinking anymore, but my car was still in the "reflash state", with the ect gauge grayed out and my accessories arent running. I turned the car off, unplugged the flashpro and turned the key to "on" again and the car was still in the "reflash" state. I tried unplugging battery and resetting ecu. same result. is as if my car is frozen in the "reflash" state when fp is uploading a cal. so i plugged my FP into my computer and in FPManager i got an error message saying the upload failed and there was a malfunction or something with the ecu and it was interrupted, and to check obd port. it also gave an error number, but i cant remember what it was i closed the message.

I went back out with my laptop and tried plugging my flashpro into the laptop and my car and flashing ecu back to stock, it said turn the key to "on" even though it was turned to on. I checked the flashpro in fpmanager to see if it was detecting the ecu. ITS NOT. the green check is there near ecu, but if u expand ecu, and under that, it says OBD - connected ECU- not detected.

I assume my ecu is toast?! :( can anyone confirm this, and will buying a new ecu solve the issue? is there anything else I can try or do?? Also, if my ecu is fried can i please send it into Hondata and be able to have it unlocked?? This is really upsetting, idk what to do and i REALLY need my car. I cant afford to buy another flashpro!!

I appreciate any help thanks!!

Thanks for the honest account of what happened. Check the fuses first.

It could be the FlashPro, ECU or both which are damaged. You could plug the FlashPro in to another vehicle to see if the ECU is detected, but the end result is still the same - the ECU & FlashPro need to be sent to us so that we can unlock the FlashPro.

Thanks very much for the reply! Can you tell me which fuses to check?

Also, I'm not sure that i will be able to plug it into another civic. I don't have one available. If i send my ECU and flashpro to you guys to unlock it, can you test the flashpro to see that it is still working, and if it's just my ecu thats bad?

Under dash Fuses 2, 3, 10, 11, 19, 21, 23. I'd pull every fuse, both under hood and under dash and check them. You can also get a cheap tester which has a light and two prongs, and will light up when pressed on a blown fuse with the ignition on. Like this http://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-NO-43-Bl ... B000DCN9BW, but I've seen just the tester for a couple of dollars.

Well, im just curious why any random fuse, besides one for the ecu, or main power, would matter? if any fuse is blown, unless it is for the ecu, how would it affect how the ecu is acting?? your saying just any old fuse, like say the fuse for my power windows...would affect the ecu like this? All my lights and radio and locks and windows and everything else works fine. Ive had fuses blow many times for fog lights and head lights, and it never affected anything at all, besides those things. Also, fuse 23 that u mentioned, there is no fuse. that is an empty slot?

My tuner VitViper, who you may know, said he spoke to hondata directly and they said to send my ecu and flashpro into them and they will take a look and unlock my fp for me if the ecu is bad. I was hoping you could tell me the address to send it to, and anything else i might need?

Again thanks for the help and I will check those fuses that u mentioned.

I did not talk to anyone at Hondata nor did I say I talked to anyone at Hondata, don't put words in my mouth.

In the time it took you to type out that response you could of checked the fuses as requested, and if they checked out, arranged shipping of the ECU & FP to Hondata.

You mislead me to believe that. lol

and I checked all the fuses, they are all good, except fuse#19 under hood "FI Main" blew. I assume thats fuel injector main? next thing is I'm going to be testing my flashpro on another civic tonight to see if detects the ECU. If it DOES, than we can assume the ecu is toast. If it DOESNT, we can assume the flashpro is toast AND wont know about the ecu. Correct??

Just an update. I checked every fuse and all was good except one. Fuse#19 under the hood. its the "FI Main" fuse. which i assume is fuel injector main. makes sense.

Also, I just checked my flashpro tonite and it worked like normal on my friends civic, it detected his ecu. So i assume the ecu is bad, or maybe i just need to replace that fuse??

You need to replace the blown fuse.
