Crank but no start
Crank but no start
Hey guys, currently at work so I can't post a tonne of information as required to make your lives easier as per the sticky thread but I'll try and include as much information as possible.
- serial number of your K-Pro - TBA
- ECU part number (starts with 37820) and serial number (the number under the part number) - TBA
- KManager version (not 'the latest') - 3.2.4 (latest BETA version i believe)
- the calibration (as an attachment) - Used the supplied base map for the k20z1
- a datalog of a problem (as an attachment) - TBA
- what sort of vehicle you have - 01 DC5R
- anything about the car which has been modified from stock which may affect the ECU (don't include what sort of rims you have nor stereo etc). Pretty sure none
- When and where you got the K-Pro - about a week ago from BYP Sydney (Australia)
Right now my problem is my car will only crank but not start with the kPRO ecu however it starts fine with the stock k20a2 ecu. I have also done an engine swap, a k20z1 into my dc5r, so I am running the k20a2 wiring loom for this. I have disabled the immobilizer and cleared circuity several times but still no go. I've double checked to see if the immobilizer has been disabled the the upload has been successful by inspecting the green key light on my dash and it is flashing mad and from what I've read that means that the immobilizer has been disabled.
Though from reading through this forum and many others with my problem a lot of people has mentioned that the upload should take approximately 2 minutes or so however in my case it was only a few seconds if anything. Does that mean I am doing something wrong??
These are the steps I did to upload the kal to the ecu:
1. Plug kpro into car
2. Plug usb from ecu into laptop
3. Check that drivers are installed and that the ecu is "online"
4. Put key into ignition
5. Check to see if kManager says that ignition is "on"
6. Is "ON"
7. Upload KAL
8. Take keys out of car.
9. Try to start
That's basically what I've done and the car only cranks and does not start but as I've said starts with the stock k20a2 dc5r ECU.
Any help is appreciated,
Regards, Justin

Re: Crank but no start
We need to know the serial number
Re: Crank but no start
Hey Spunkster!
Just got home, the SN is:11774 it should be v3.
Let me know if you need to know anything else.
EDIT**
So I got the engine to start with the kpro by redoing the security once again and reuploading the base map. It struggled but it turned over. It seems to struggle in idle as well, the idle rev flucuates pretty high up and down and my exhaust sounds like its going to die. The engine also sounds like it is going to stall any time as well. Another thing is I am getting black smoke.....
Any ideas or suggestions??? This is my current engine set up:
TODA SPEC A2 CAMS
TODA Valve Springs
TODA Timeching Chain Tensioner
TODA Full Exhaust
Skunk2 70mm TB
RBc Intake manifold with port match adapters
Gruppe M Intake
This is all in a k20z1 w/ a k20a2 gearbox. In a DC5R wired with the k20a2 engine harness. I'm also using the 04-06 o2 sensor. I had no black smoke issues or starting issues with the stock ECU.
I tried to get a datalog to get some ideas but every time i press it I get an error saying the current kal you are using is from an old version of kManger, please update your kal. I'm just currently using the only k20z1 w/ cai dyno tuned that is supplied as a base map.

Re: Crank but no start
Without seeing the calibration you are using and a datalog of the problem it is very difficult to diagnose a problem like this. Have you contacted your dealer you purchased this from about this?
If it says the calibration is from an older version of software then you need to upload the calibration using the current version of software.

Re: Crank but no start
Yeah I have, and hes absolutely useless. All i got was "thats strange".
I uploaded my current calibration with the latest software on the same laptop that it is using now and it still wont let me datalog it from the same software/laptop I am using.

Re: Crank but no start
What dealer did you purchase this from?
Re: Crank but no start
This is from BYP. Located in Sydney, Australia.
Re: Crank but no start
This K-Pro was not installed by Hondata and was installed by Xenocron. You will need to contact them about this issue, as it sounds like it could be an installation issue if it has never worked for you.
Re: Crank but no start
I see, but is my k-pro ship genuine?
Re: Crank but no start
I'm facing the same problem with a swap EK3 with K20a2 engine, crank but no start/ run. The engine cut down on 2500rpm. Solution please? Thanks
