KPRO bad?

Post by boostinscooby »

KPro Serial #: 2068-502321
ECU PN: 37820-PRB-A05
Kmanager Version: 3.03
Car: 93 Honda Civic Ex
Motor: K20A2
Mods: Hybrid Harness, Hondata 4 Bar Map Sensor, DW 800cc Injectors, Custom turbo kit (tial 38mm wg, tial bov, precision 600 hp capable turbo, 3" charge pipe, huge full size intercooler, 3" dp)

I sold the car to my friend, originally supercharged, made 325hp on 11 lbs. N/A it made 220. He decided to take the blower off and build a custom turbo kit. We took the blower off, through an N/A tune in it drove it around the block and it still blew the tires off through 3rd gear. Next day, turbo build.

Finished up the build, took it to the dyno and it made power (220hp) up to 5500 rpms and flat lined. VTEC engages but makes no power. Tuner was at a loss, we went through everything. We checked compression, leakdown, boost leaks, sparkplugs, injectors, vtec solenoid, cps, vtc solenoid and everything tested out fine. Got the car back home and found that the turbo was loose on the manifold and suspected that was the problem. My friend made some pulls and poof, blew a ring land on piston #1.

So he rebuilt the motor, low compressin pistons, rods, supertech valve springs, ferera valves etc. Still thinking the loose turbo caused the problem, took it to get tuned once again. Same results, flatlined at 5500 ish rpms. Tuner tried a few things, car wouldnt respond. So decided maybe its an oil pressure problem and VTEC wasnt working correctly. When we turbo'd it we took the oil cooler off and used a sandwhich plate to supply the turbo. We reverted that back to the oil cooler and t'd off the oil pressure sensor for the feed and it still feels like a turd. On the dyno, with the charge pipe off, n/a tune in, the car only made 96 hp. So we did the same thing at home after tossing the sandwhich plate and it feels like it only makes 100hp if that n/a. So we started troubleshooting everything again, vtc solenoid, vtec solenoid, timing, injectors etc. Nothing gives. The only thing we can think of now, is a bad kpro. And here is why we suspect that.

Everyonce in a while, he will go to turn the car on and it will crank and not start. Go back 10 mins later and itll fire right up. When road tuning, sometimes the changes wont take effect even with drastic changes. On the way back from Oklahoma to New Mexico where our tuner is, the AFR's were all over the place. And not to mention, vtec isnt making any power.

What should we do next?

Try the ECU in a known working and good vehicle.

I'm trying to line one up. We live in the middle of no where. Trying to talk a guy with a type-s into it that I dont even know. And as far as k-swaped, its problably the only one within 100 miles atleast. :(

Have you atleast heard of anything similar like this?

If it is the ECU, what the process of getting it fixed?

This does not sound like an ECU problem.

Check ALL GROUNDS make sure that they're big enough to supply ecu... I've had this problem before!
