05-06 Type S Gearbox in an 03 DC5 Type R

Post by its_ish »

Hi,

I recently had to replace my gearbox in my DC5 Type R with a Type S high frequency type (countershaft driven speed sensor) and now the speedo/cluster does not work properly. I have disconnected the wiring for the cluster as it is showing erratic reading despite selecting the countershaft speed sensor sensor option in the MISC option of Kmanager. I have a PRD ECU with a kpro and would like to know what I need to do to have the cluster/speedo to function correctly. Will I need to use a speed sensor converter like a Dakota, Ktuned or Hybrid Racing or will I need to re-wire my harness? Please advise.

Use the engine side case from your old transmission with the speed sensor.

Is that the only way to make the speedo work?

It is the best way and the only way we will recommend.

Ok, noted.
However, I wanted to explore other options.
1. use of a speed converter (hybrid, ktuned, dakota)
2. Use 05-06 Hondata Kpro
I know you dont recommend these options but is there a possibility they could work?
