When using TPS signal and disconnected MAP sensor, car dies

Post by lovemyrsx »

Hi. I have ITBs and tuned with only modified TPS signal (Alpha-N). When I disconnect the MAP sensor, the car starts up and drives around fine for a little bit. After five minutes or so, the car dies in the middle of driving. For example, I could be at 3000 RPMs on the freeway and the engine just dies.

Is there a correlation between why a TPS only tuned car with a disconnected (or perhaps deleted) MAP sensor would die? I just figured if my car is tuned by TPS only, it would be safe to disconnect the MAP sensor. Is there some signal that K-Pro needs from the MAP sensor even when it is tuned by only TPS?

Thanks!

The MAP sensor mush be connected and reading manifold vacuum, even when using ITBs.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, my car died on the freeway so I learned it the hard way. :)

Unfortunately, I don't have the stock MAP sensor anymore. So on the freeway shoulder, I figured I would try to plugging in the OEM MAP wires into my AEM MAP/pressure sensor. The car drove fine after that, at least for 15 miles.

If I'm tuned with modified TPS signal, can I use an aftermarket MAP sensor? In Parameters/MAP, I see the option to use stock, replacement, or TPS.

Yes, you can use an aftermarket MAP sensor, but it must read manifold vacuum.
