Fan Override Control not responding!

Post by Corksil »

Hey, when I set the fan override control to 185 degrees F, and the minimum speed to 30mph the fan is supposed to come on @ 185F whenever the car is below 30mph unless I'm mistaken.

My question is - which sensor is this temperature reading taken from?

On my b16a, there is a FAN control sensor on the thermostat housing, and the ECT sensor on the head. (We all know about the gauge-control but I have no problems with that so let's ignore it.)

I set smanager to activate my fan @ 185F below 30mph, uploaded the calibration, and drove the car until the thermostat opened. Then I sat in the car idling while the ECT value in smanager rose higher and higher.

The fan did not come on until the ECT was 199F, 204F, and 202F.

If the fan override control is basing it's activation temperature off the FAN CONTROL sensor instead of the ECT sensor, I don't think I have a problem.

If the fan override control is basing it's activation temperature off the ECT sensor, that means I have a problem because my fan didn't come on until ECT was 199F, 204F, and 202F (in my three tests.)

Any help would be appreciated.

came to the conclusion that my fan must be operating based on the information from the OEM fan control switch on the thermostat housing. Which was 72*C, if I recall, which is roughly 199*F.

Not that this is a tech forum, but my only remaining question is now - is 199*F a cool enough fan activation point? Or should I hook up pin A12 (fan override control output) and lower the damn temp?

Fan override is activated by the ECT sensor that the ECU reads. If You cannot override it then you probably do not have the wiring from the ECU to the fan relay. That temp seems fine as long as the vehicle is not overheating.
