A Hondata for a 96 VTi-R Civic B16A2 with a OBD II ECU.

Post by 96vtir »

Hey guys

Im the proud owner of a sixth-gen 96 civic, labelled as VTi-R in Australia, it comes stock with a B16A2 block and a OBD II ECU.

Iv taken macro detailed shots of my ECU and after following the link at hondata on how to identify different OBDs, its definately an OBD II. Id like to think of this as good news I guess cause it suits the apparart factual table being
OBD 0 pre 92
OBD I 92-95
OBD II 96-98
OBD IIb 99+

My main information (from the sticker just inside the major connect to the base of the ECU) is 37820-P2T-G01.

So cool... I have an OBD II based ECU.

I read that OBD I is kind of the ECU of choice but... :( but I would really like to maintain my OBDII if possible I guess? One person Iv called already about it said changing the whole ECU to OBD I will loose monitoring/(or control?) of the Air Conditioner and a few other tiny things, so im not too keen about this...

Plus OBD II sounds, and is I guess per the above table, newer, so .. Id really like to be able to find a hondata solution without having to buy an older OBD I which maybe wasnt really meant or worse compatible with my car. Im fine I guess if I need to go getting like an adapter harness or something, but a OBD I swap scares me a little (and what about the extra $$$?)

Lastly, Im worried cause my ecu #, the # would be P2T right (ecu is labelled inside as 37820-P2T-G01) so from that its P2T yeah, doesnt appear on the compatible list at http://hondata.com/ecus.html nor by engine at http://hondata.com/engines.html

I was originally recommened and almost went for a microtech LTX-8s but was told then by a good source, get a hondata  Looks like the s100 or s200 are the system or choice, so am hopeing it can be so. Any thoughts or help appreciated

Best Regards
:D

You have to get an OBDI ecu and conversion harness. THe only things you loose is the knock sensor unless you find a P30 JDM ECU. US P28 and P30 (I guess australian also) do not have knock sensor. THe other things you loose are for emissions purposes. The AC works fine.

hmm well.. I didnt want to have to believe that, but if I NEED to get a OBD I, well then i guess thats all there is to it..

but

I received this reply from my trusty local performance guys, what do you think??

"we supply you a OBD 2 modded computer so no need for a seperate harness. The knock sensor stays.. very quick and easy to do and it will cost you $2020 tuned.."

Thoughts?? I thought the OBD II was unable to be modded? Im assuming its a s100/s200 system they supply

How about the price? Thats AUD$2020 which is about $1400 US ...

I guess they have an OBDI ECU with an OBD2 connector so no need for the harness. This should go for 450$, add 260$ for the S200 and the rest are for tuning.
