check engine light

Post by blackcat »

Just used my s200 system for the first time and I got a check engine light. Tried to get the ecu to flash the code but every time that I try to read the flashes it blinks off, comes back on and stays on. No flashing. The car is running fine as far as fuel ratio so I have no idea what is causing the light. For all I know I forgot to plug something in while putting the motor back in. Had a stage two system before and upgraded to the s200. Had the rom converted from the stage two programming to the new s200. Could something be wrong with the convertion? Please help freshly built motor and don't want to damage it for something stupid.

Are you running an O2 sensor?

You will have to data log and read the code that it is giving or use the jumper method and cound the flashes.

Tried the jumper method before and that didn't work. For some reason the ecu is not responding to shorting out the plug like it used to. The only thing that I can think of is that there is something wrong with the ecu. Has anyone had this problem before with the s200? Everyone has been telling me that I have to use hondalogger to diagnose the problem But i don't understand why I can't get the ecu to flash the code.

You will have to use the Datalogging option to properly read the code to see what it is.

I have this exact same problem with a p28 s100. It is obd1 and I can jumper other ecu's but not this one. Is the datalogging option something specific to Hondata?

Blackcat, what'd you find out?

Turns out that the only way for me to pull that code was to get the datalogging function enabled. For some reason on my ecu I could no longer use the jumper to read that code. It's very strange becsause the reason that I was showing a code was because when my rom was burned the person that burned it forgot to turn off the knock sensor. The p28 does not use a knock sensor. Even so when I use my palm pilot instead of the my laptop it doesn't show the knock sensor code even though the check engine light is on. Best way to do it is get datalogging if it's possible with the s100. If not maybe someone else that has the s200 with datlogging enabled can read the code for you. Not sure if the s200 will read your rom but it's worth a try.
