Hi,
I'm considering getting a reflash but have a few concerns.
I plugged in my friend's Kpro the other day and ran the CAI calibration just to get a feel for how the reflash #4 might feel. I know the calibration isn't exactly the same as the reflash #4 but is the closest map to it from what I've been told. It's just a more aggressive tune. I also ran the 'stock-tuned' map to see how that one feels. Both maps come preinstalled in the Kmanager program by Hondata. After running both maps I noticed that the engine had quite a few knocks (knocked a lot under full throttle at lower RPM's). My current setup on my RSX-S is a Mugen airbox and Greddy SE exhaust. I know that the CAI calibration was tuned for use with a CAI so I can see where the anomolies might've come from. However, both maps had quite a few knocks.
My question is, with the reflash #4, I wouldn't be able to monitor the engine so I wouldn't even know if it was knocking or not. I would think that Hondata tuned this calibration conservatively enough that there should be ZERO knocks (just like with the stock map). When I ran the stock map on Kpro, I experienced ZERO knocks. Will the reflash #4 produce the same result? And how would I know? There's no way to find out. It would be super helpful if someone had the reflash #4 map that I could run on the Kpro to test it for knocks, but as far as I know, this map doesn't exist.
Hondata, could you please give me some more insight into how the reflash #4 was calibrated and whether it would produce any knock? Also, why don't you guys just have this reflash preinstalled in Kmanager for Kpro users to use if they wanted to? You guys already include a bunch of maps that are usefull (such as the stock map). I really wanna get the reflash, but if I'm not 100% certain that ZERO knocks are produced, I wouldn't do it.
Thanks to anyone who has any useful input!
Reflash #4 for K20A2 - Possible Knocking?
Re: Reflash #4 for K20A2 - Possible Knocking?
The reflash is not the same as any of the KPro calibrations.
You have not said what octane fuel you use, but it should not knock.

Thank you for the response.Hondata wrote:The reflash is not the same as any of the KPro calibrations.

I know it is not the same as any of the calibrations. I only used the CAI calibration because from everything I've read around the boards and on Club RSX, it is the one closest to the reflash (the reflash is supposedly a more conservative tune).
I only use 91 octane.
Is there any way for me to know if the reflash will knock or not? Or do you guys actually have any data that suggests that it doesn't? I ran the stock-tuned calibration that's preloaded in Kmanager and that's supposed to be a very conservative tune but even that exhibited quite a bit of knocking.

The only way for you to be certain is to get the reflash and put it on the dyno and listen for knock.
Re: Reflash #4 for K20A2 - Possible Knocking?
Can all knocks be heard somehow? All the knocks I got on my car while running the CAI and stock-tuned maps were not audiable. How do I know they're not ghost knocks you might ask? For each of the 3 maps that I ran (CAI, stock-tuned, stock) I took the same route and did pulls from 3rd gear. The runs were nearly identical to eliminate as many variables as possible. Both the CAI and stock-tuned maps produced quite a bit of knock (none audiable) while the stock map produced zero knock.Spunkster wrote:The only way for you to be certain is to get the reflash and put it on the dyno and listen for knock.
