S300 issues/ 4k rev limit.

Post by blasta510 »

The other day I decided to do a little tuning.

I have a 96 Civic obd2a with a jumper harness to obd1.
I have the hondata in a p28 with s300. It was installed by a shop.
Car was running just fine. I plugged in my laptop/the car died. And you could smell burnt electronics.
I unplugged the laptop and started the car. Ran fine till 4000 rpm then it has a rev limit.
I plugged the usb cable back into the ecu and the laptop. But it didn't connect to the ecu and the smanager.

Where do I go from here?

Open the ECU and look for what you smelled burning.

I opened it up and nothing looks burnt at all. Pulled the chip out, looked front and back, and then all around the ecu board and nothing looks bad/ or burnt

Do any lights come on on the s300 when you turn the key to the on position?

Yes two green lights on the s300 board when the key is switched on.
It went through the troubleshooting and the computer does not recognize that anything is plugged in dealing with hondata.
How do I go about sending it in to get repaired, im assuming that the s300 board is the issue.
I have had the ecu out of the car since my last post. Its running on crome now :(. I plugged the hondata ecu in and it started the car for about 3 seconds and would not restart.

Have you tired this s300 in a different ECU? It sounds like the ECU may not be powering up properly and may have been damaged.

I have not had a chance to try it in a different ecu. The only friend I have that has the s300 just got it back from the shop and being dyno tuned and does not want to take a chance on messing up his ecu if my s300 shorts it out?

Send in an email to support <at> hondata.com the serial number of the s300 board inside the ECU, a picture of the s300 (high quality and in focus), and a link to this thread.
