What type of relay?

Post by Touge Master »

Hi there.
I'm rewiring my car (1992 Civic EG K20). I'm following this wiring diagram http://www.hondata.com/images/k20awiring.gif

I'm not going to use the EG main relay but i have encounter a problem. The EG main relay has built-in diodes for voltage supression ECU protection.

Must i use diode protected relays? or i can use standart ones as seen at the above wiring diagram. I also have the same question for the Rad fan relay also switched by the ECU.

Thanks in advance.

It would be best to use the same type of relays used by the original manufacturer. They used what they used for a very good reason.

The problem was i couldn't find diode protected relays but finally i've found them. OEM Main relay uses this type of reverse voltage suppression so i think the can do the trick.
The rad fan relay in my EG under-hood relay box uses a resistor for the same reason but i think it can be replaced with a diode protected one. But if there is any reason to do not use them please let me know. I haven't started the wiring yet.

Thanks in advance.
