Flashpro PWM boost control results in dead VSS

Post by PIE-R »

I have a 2007 civic SI turbocharged after correctly installing the boost control solenoid and pinning the ECU harness I noticed that the speedometer would intermittently quit working for short periods of time like 2 or 3 miles / min and then start working again. To try and diagnose the problem I removed the PWM pin from the ECU plug, disabled boost control in flashpro, checked the 3 wires in the harness between the speed sensor and the ECU connector, replaced the speed sensor, all no no avail. Now it seems as the problem has gotten progressively worse and it is very rare that I have a working speedometer anymore. This, of course, throws a CEL which disables VTEC and also makes the electric power steering very stiff so Ive mostly quit driving the car. The harness has been modified with wideband feedback and (previously) PWM output. Is it possible that my ECU is toast? I can't think of what else could be going on here, since I have already replaced the VSS. any input is appreciated

You should change the title of your thread. I run Hondata's boost control and know many other that do also. And in 0 cases has it caused or resulted in a dead vss. You mentioned that the harness has been modified for wideband inteface, perhaps you have installation errors that are causing your electrical problems.

Why did you disable boost control as part of your trouble shooting for your speedo problem? I don't see how you could make that type of connection for your particular problem?

I would recommend following the helms manual for troubleshooting the error you are getting. If you are unable to do that then take the car to a Honda dealer.

it was immediately after the installation of the Hondata PWM pin on the ECU harness that the speedometer started having issues.

Check your installation, as VSS is pin A29

I finally took it to Honda and got it hooked up to their diagnostic tools, had 3 technicians and myself trying to figure it out using multimeter and scan tool. we found that there is a 0.5 ohm drop between the ECU harness Countershaft output speed sensor V+ pin on the ECU and the sensor itself. One tech said that a 0.5 ohm drop is more resistance than he would expect, and to try jumping the wires directly, another said that 0.5 is slightly high but it shouldn't cause it to malfunction. Then we probed the sensor harness with the ecu plugged in and IGN on, there was NO +5v reading at the sensor plug! so First, im going to jump the speed sensor wires directly to the ECU, then im going to start looking for a replacement ECU. Looks like im the only one ever to have this problem

You have a lot of speculations going on. Do you even know what is normal ohm fall off if any? Why are you going to "start looking for an ECU"? It's not hard, just get a new one from the dealer. It's less than 300 bucks I think from majestic honda. You go looking for used ones that may not be for your car and you will have problems for sure. Have you seen all the different ECU part numbers even for all U.S. cars? There are more than I thought

Don't mind fuc this. Many people have boost control and it has been working great. Check your installation.
