hi,
i own a 06 EDM S2000 and a FlashPro, currently running FPM 1.1.8.5.
the help file included has been prepared according to Civic. i have read plenty of help file topics, however they are not related with F20C/F22C. there are many irrelevant screentshots of FPM demonstrating Civic application.
why is that so?
regards,
help documentation
Re: help documentation
There is one help file which covers two different types of Civic and also the S2000. The S2000 uses a sub-set of that help file information. We can not remove Civic specific help topics without removing information for Civic owners. In any case, 80% of the help file is relevant for S2000 users, and I'd like to think that our users are capable enough to ignore the 20% of the help file which does not apply to the vehicle.

it is clear that FPM for S2000 has been developed referencing the abovementioned Civic models. this is an expected and logical development strategy as far as the engine management principles, Honda's proprietary functions, etc. are concerned.
however; your product is being sold as a separate product, specifically for the S, and it has different variances like USDM S, EDM S etc. this is obvious because Civic and S has different engines. this implies that they have different characteristics, parameters and so on.
furthermore, FlashPro is the very device that enables me to learn how an F20C works. so i have to read & understand every single sentence of the help file since it is my essential reference for tuning. i have to understand how subsystems like knock detection, closed loop, etc. works before trying to tune them. that is why a help documentation dedicated to F20C/F22C is important.
as a standard customer, it is illogical to expect that i should understand an engine (Civic) that i do not own, then derive the similarities and differences between this engine and an F20C. afterall, it is FlashPro which teaches me the F20C. by the way, there are no resources like Fundamentals of F20C book or a similar thing (as far as i know). please inform me if so, i will be very glad.
before i started to experience with the FlashPro, i was quite impressed with the features; however after i started to run FPM; i am getting more and more disappointed with Civic help files, bugs with official releases and technical support replies like F20C is %20 percent different than a Civic engine and you have to guess those differences.
i do appreciate the features and the performance of the product, and i am even ready to put my personal efforts for bug resolutions, however i do expect the same professional interest from Hondata.
i think my intention and approach is clear with the above. i will be demanding more technical support from Hondata as i am an official customer now, until the time that i decide to return to stock or switch to another vendor's EMS.

Re: help documentation
With respect, it is easy to identify what is and what is not relevant to the S2000 in the help file. The basic operation of the FlashPro (Installation, Locking, Datalogging etc), how to tune Fuel, Ignition and Knock Control tables is the same between the Civic and S2000 - everything apart from 'AFM Tuning' and 'VTC Tuning' is relevant for the S2000. If I look at the size of the topics which do not apply to the S2000 as a proportion of the help file size, 91.6% is useful for S2000 owners and 8.4% is not applicable for S2000 owners.
As far as resources which will help you, there is nothing that I know of specifically for S2000 tuning, but I've found these books by Greg Banish to be helpful is learning the fundamentals of engine management tuning: 'Designing and Tuning High-Performance Fuel Injection Systems' and 'Engine Management: Advanced Tuning'. $15-$20 each online.

Re: help documentation
thanks Hondata, i'll be checking the books.
i think that as far as the FP product quality is concerned; it will be more suitable & professional for the FP to have a revised help file for the S; so that customers quit making assumptions about the internals of F20C, taking Civic as the basis.
a quick example is AF vs. AF.corrected parameter.
