When chosen a calibration... do you go by the Block of the motor "B17" or the head "b16" ?

depending on the block internals is it str8 b17 or is it ls crank there is a difference

Can you explain how you figured what basemap for a Frankenstein motor ?
For example: B18a1 Block and B16 head. How would you know what map to use ?

In general, it follows the block. You want to make sure it has the right fuel for the extra cc's of the motor, however, timing is more based on the head. So the answer is, both. :P
For a b17/b16 frank, I would use the b16 map. Its most likely got enough fuel to compensate for the bigger displacement and the timing is more likely to work. Id add 5% fuel just in case, or if you have any issues with a rough idle. If it was a straight b17, id say use the GSR map as I believe the head design is closer.
Obviously bigger cams and higher comp pistons will change the fuel/timing characteristics of the motor, but its usually still fairly easy to create basemaps. Ultimately no map is going to be right, or prolly even close to right, for your setup. Best thing you can do is put it on a dyno....either that or get a wideband and get the AFRS straight at least. Try researching plug reading to help dial in timing on the street, though max power is MUCH harder to find without a dyno.

thank you, I been street tuning for a year and 6 months b4 i got it dyno tuned, with no wideband ! lolz !
I always used the b17 base map as a outline. i have worked with the b16 as an outline, but it seems to want to run rough with out giving any extra power.
