TPS is only working for 20 seconds - what is going on?

Post by Screaminz28 »

Using hondalogger, with all codes cleared, tps works for 20 seconds and then throw a code and sits a 1.5v 26% throttle. We thought it was the sensor, but replaced with known good and still has problem. Voltage wire is good, signal wire is good, and ground wire is good. We are stumped. Also, o2s are not hooked up yet, and hondalogger is reporting 3.81v. Whats with that? We had that problem on a VX to GSR swap, but thought it was because the shop before us tried to rig the 4 wire in the 5 wire harness. Any thoughts on this would be helpful. If there is anything that could possibly go wrong on an install, it has gone wrong tonight. We have done everything we can think of! Where should we look next. Thanks!

Hasn't anyone seen this before? Is there a way to test my tps wires to see if there is possibly a short somewhere? I am lost. We have even replaced the engine harness. This is totally ridiculous. We have swapped ecus, hondata boxes, everything. Whats the deal?

Back to the subject no one has a clue about. We ran new wires from the ecu and installed a known good tps. Problem solved. We figured that the wires were shorting out and frying the tps sensors. So everything is good! For a while. It never showed a code last night, or tonight, for about 100 miles of driving. We decided to datalog tongiht, and noticed the tps wasn't calibrated properly. We loosened it and as soon as we touch it, bam! code 7. We clear the codes, start the car, it works for 20 seconds, and code 7. We tighten it back down, and clear the codes, no problem. We have a BBK 70mm tb, and this is simply retarded. Someone has to have seen this before. Anyone have an idea at all? 39 views and not one reply? Come on, I know you guys know something.

well i can try to feed u in the right direction get the tps on there there is 3 wires. one is a 5 volt reference and one is a signal the last one is a ground. Get a volt meter turn the ignition on and identify each wire the signal wire when u move the tps it will change voltages. With the car off key on turn the tps until the signal wire voltage sits on about .50 of a volt and lock that tps down there. lemme know if u can even get this done.

I have already done all that. I even put the stock TB on and it works for about 5 minutes and throws a code. The BBK will not even work for 20 seconds. I have verifed all wires and even ran new ones. No luck. How about this for a new problem. My o2s are reading 3.7v. What is up with that? We thought it was just one of the hondaloggers dumb defaults, but even with a sensor hooked up, it still does it. Anyone have the correct wiring pinout for the o2 sensor and heater?

if this is a 92-95 car the O2 sensor wires are as follows:

pin: color:
a6 orange/black --> heated oxygen sensor control
d14 white --> heated oxygen sensor input
d22 green/white --> sensor ground
(the voltage value of d14 should read 4.-.5 v when the car is first turned on, but should drop to less than .1v within 1 minute)

in the engine bay:
the O2 sensor has 4 wires:

white, this will run to d14
light green, this will run to d22 (sensor ground)

two black, the heaters --> one goes to pin a6
my diagram isn't incredibly clear on this, so i'll try to explain as best as possible:
the 2nd black wire goes to the fuel injector wire that is black and yellow and ties into all the fuel injectors. if that doesn't make sense let me know and i'll try again
