engine cranks, but won't start

Post by danx »

Hello,

I just installed a 05-06 KPro into my 06 RSX-S, and now the car cranks, but will not start.

- I replaced the primary O2 sensor with an 02-04 version.
- Uploaded the 05 CAI kal that came with KManager, unchanged.
- Immobilizer is disabled (check box was already empty in the kal I uploaded)
- Fuel pump seems to be working -- I removed the gas cap and did hear some sound from that area after I switched the ignition to "on"; I didn't follow the rest of the service manual's procedure to check the PGM-FI main relay (I didn't touch anything in the fuel system during installation, so this seems unlikely).
- KManager seems to communicate with the KPro - it says "On Line" and "Ignition On" when I plug it in. I was able to upload and download with no errors. I'm running Windows XP under VirtualBox with USB passthrough.
- I tried Erase ECU to clear any possible security per http://hondata.com/techkpro_troubleshooting.html ... it returned an error (I assume that means Protect ECU wasn't set)

other relevant info:
- serial number: 4191 EDIT - this was what was written on the front of the box; serial number in the ECU is different (see post below)
- KManager version: 1.4.1.0
- the calibration: 2005 CAI kal ("k20a2-rsx-2005.kal")
- vehicle: 2006 RSX-S, stock except for CAI
- what sort of ECU you are using: I'm not sure ... I bought the KPro used

Is there anything I'm missing?? Any other suggestions to help out a noob?

Download the most recent beta version of software from our website, then try clearing security, then go to new calibration and upload a new calibration making sure you disable the immobilizer. When it finishes, take the key out of the ignition before starting the car.

Spunkster,
Just tried it -- it didn't work.

I downloaded the cal from the ECU and compared it to the cal I uploaded ... here are the differences of note:

Line 21:
SoftwareVersion=5207
SoftwareVersion=5136

Line 23:
Checksum=1112211714
Checksum=1586364804

Line 569:
LaunchMaxSpeed=2
LaunchMaxSpeed=3

I'm guessing those small differences are the result of the uploading/downloading process, so it seems the cal is being correctly sent to the ECU.

Any other thoughts?

Okay, found one more clue to the puzzle. I pulled a coil and checked for spark while cranking the engine -- there was none. So the question is, what would cause my coils not to fire?

Please post the calibration you are uploading. Do not provide a link to some other wibsite, just post it here.

Cal file attached.

Another noob question ... do I need to unplug the immobilizer (from beneath the steering column)?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Will the stock ECU start the car?

How long does it take to uplaod to the ECU?

The stock ECU was working fine before I installed the KPro. I can re-install it and check it out again when I get home.

Do I need to switch the primary O2 sensor back (to the 05-06 version) before I attempt to start the car with the stock ECU? Or can I safely start the car with the stock ECU and 02-04 wideband O2 sensor installed?

When I cleared out the ECU last night, it took about 30 seconds. Uploading also required approximately the same amount of time.

Clear security again, but when it is done, close the program completely and reopen it then go to File, New and open a fresh calibration an upload it. Uploading should take about 2 minutes.

The O2 sensor will not cause a major propblem just for starting the car.

Okay, I cleared security again and reset the computer before uploading. The upload took ~1.5 minutes. Still no start.

I plugged in my stock ECU and the car fired up right away.

Is it too early to start asking about Hondata's service/repair/warranty policy? :(
