d16y8 basemap help get it right

Post by v8killaz »

99 civic ex. d16y8 obdIIb harness to obdI. hondata s300 p28 base. no changes to fuel/ignition.

i had a d16y8 turbo and took it out to throw some vitara's in it. in the meantime its my only car so i swapped in another y8 motor.

i got it in and it had the 3wire iacv so i had to drill the intake mani and get a obdI iacv on it.

i got it started running pretty good on the p28 d16z6 base map. im running it in open loop and have the o2 disabled. the car is eating alot of gas, well even more than the y8 boosted motor with rc 550's

one reason i swapped the motor in was to get better gas mileage till i get my crx running. gas is going to hit us hard.

well it idles perfect but feels laggy and eat a bit of gas.
the car is running a shit intake. and open header for now. ill get that fixed soon as well as install an o2 sensor. whats better for gas mileage, running with less back pressure and more flow or more back pressure.

what tweaks should i do to the base map since i am running a d16y8 and i believe the timing is different from the z6 which to me would prob make the car like shit.

i am a complete noob at tuning but i do have a wideband, boost gauge and oil pressure gauge.

the wideband is out with the turbo motor
but i can connect it
should i connect it then

i would rather start with a y8 basemap since the timing will be correct im confused on timing thats about it

If you intend on tuning your base map, I think you should

still need a bit of help
but i installed the stock o2 sensor back up and it seems to be working with no codes. i installed a full oem exhaust on also so i get some backpressure. now im trying to find a stock intake

im not getting any codes right now with nothing disabled except eld.
car idles perfect.

but i beileve the timing is still off. when i set this to 12(stock d16y8 ignition timing)
http://www.hondata.com/help/smanager/in ... timing.htm

and then i sync the dizzy with the timing marks with a timing light does that mean my timing is now set to 12 degrees or no.

i dont understand it. right now the dizzy is moved all the way forward and the timing marks line up perfect on the crank pulley
