well the problem with using the k20 ecu.. it is ivtec for one, and the pinouts are fairly similar, but they require different intervals, voltages and whatnot...

so no the k20 ecu will not work

Wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in tuning this engine. There are a lot more owners of the Honda Civic with the D17A2 then there are owners? rsx/civic_hatch with k20a, k20a2, and k20a3. You do the demographics. Honda races those 7th gen coupes in Canada. Doesn't need all that much gain to make it a contender.

A successful mod from you would result in long-term gains and rewards for your business. Imagine the loyalty youl be building with all the young driving enthusiasts who own the 7th gen vics with d17a2s. Trust yme ou don't want to miss the boat on this fantastic opportunity. D17s are here to stay there hondas new ULEV engines and you can say good bye to the old d16s, its time to evolve your products to keep pace with industry standards.

Package a few bolt-ons together reprogram the ECU and start selling some extremely demanded ECUs.

There is a slight chance that the K-Series ecu will work, and we have been looking into this. Please be patient and we will keep youall poseted with any updates. Do not hold your breath on this as there are many issues involved with this.

Keep the rest of us non D17A2 owners informed as well. I'm really interested in chipping my D17A6. That's the HX with CVT.

hondata for d17

Post by EmMm2 »

im a current member at www.7thgencivic.com and was refered to this website. just want to add another count for a hondata for our d17a2 motors. i understand its not that easy and very time consuming, but i hope you guys can make this happen and best of luck to the hondata team.

for the people who are rushing these people, have some respect please. if more and more people are going to keep rushing and 'demanding' hondata for our applications, your just making them hurry and rush which can lead onto a faulty product or an "uncomplete" project.

goodluck

No matter how much you beg...it isn't going to happen.

From a company standpoint, it wouldn't be a wise move.

now how can expanding your applications be a bad move? I have heard that hondata has been playing with a 7th gen in their shop. Thanks to you guys for looking into it for us 7th gen civic owners. After seeing the results from just a reflash program on the k20a3 , I hope you can do something to wake up the d17.
If you make it I will buy it.

Why do you say that are you in communication directly with Honda? Have they told you that they are scrapping the d17a2 engines?

If they haven't I don't see how its not a good move. There are more owners of d17s and k20s. I could see how if Honda is providing you with incentives to promote the new K series I could see how it is worth your while.

Anyhow its poor business on your part honestly when you have actual customers before you even have a finished product requesting a simple ECU upgrade. Good way to make brand loyalty. Why would I come back to hondata when I buy an rsx. I probabaly would avoid you. I mean at least communicate the true reason of your not finding the d17 a profitable venture. Did you have a business case written up? Do you really see no potential? Maybe your sales staff isn't up to par? Sorry for flaming but when you throw a comment like "no matter how much you beg" its quite unprofessional and offensive.

I'm guessing you have the firmware commands whats so difficult to have one of your guys try out some diff settings and dyno the car? Technically its not so difficult.

Sometimes Its not only about making profit its about expanding your business and taking some risks. If you want keep pace with your competitors. You could have even made some demo units if you didn't want to do the testing yourself, and have a few civic owners try out your chip.
