After a KPro conversion, does Hondata fully test the ECU?

Post by kb58 »

I had a Hondata dealer, Church's, convert my PRB over to KPro. I've only just started the car but noticed during the brief idle that AFR is stuck at 14.7 - always. I've checked the wiring about 100 times and nothing. It doesn't even matter if the sensor's plugged in or not.

My question: After conversion, does Hondata test the AFR circuit as part of checking out the ECU? If so, great, I'll concentrate on finding the problem elsewhere, but because the O2 wiring's so simply, it's starting to look like the problem might be internal. I'm not saying that Hondata blew it up; I'm saying I may have unknowingly sent in a defective ECU to start with, having bought it used.

I suppose it's possible that one of the O2 sensor wiress is broken internally. I fed in a simulated signal and the ECU simply refuses to read anything - always stuck at 14.7. OTOH I'm an EE, so I don't know if that hurts or helps me here!

Hoping to hear that Hondata always checks the AFR circuitry.

hi kb58

i have the same problem ,always stuck at 14.7 in idle or during the running and after few minutes i have a p0132 fault( high voltage 02 sensor ) but the sensor is new.
i have no idea.

i just bought a lamnda tester and i will check the signal came out the sensor and i can give to the ecu a signal rich or poor .

after this test i think find the problem, sensor or ecu problem

ecu is new ,never use ,bought in 2008 but never because in built a kit car austin mini with k20a2 euro ecu is pra.

kind regards
stephane
if you find the solution please told me

The best thing to do is to try your ECU in another vehicle with a knock good oxygen sensor. That will narrow it down.

Agreed... if I only had access to said vehicle :(

I can send it in for testing, but that goes back to my original question, does Hondata fully test the the AFR circuitry? If ECUs are fully tested as part of the KPro upgrade, I'll look for the problem elsewhere and not waste our time by shipping it back.

No the O2 sensor circuitry cannot be tested here.

Hmm, okay, I'll see what I can do at my end. I hate to think that I may have bought a $1200 boat anchor... I've never heard of anyone who repairs Honda K-series ECUs. Worst case, I guess Hondata can transfer the KPro add-on board from the bad ECU into a good one, right?

It can be transfered if need be.

just wondering, is it still in closed loop???

I tried both open and closed-loop, but keep in mind the KPro is in a one-off mid-engine car (see sig.) The cooling system hasn't even been plumbed yet, so I've only run it twice for about 30 seconds at idle. Until coolant has come up to temperature I don't know what I've got.

At this point, I've put the problem aside since I can't do much about it anyway. Between the AFR not reading and it blowing raw fuel out the exhaust(!), I'm thinking I best leave it alone and let the dyno guys sort it out. They have access to spare O2 sensors, ECUs, and have better maps than I'm using.

This'll give you some idea of what it is ;)
