S300 possible socket problem

Post by sicones »

S300 was installed about a year ago in a known good P28, car tuned and running fine for about a year. Its a 200whp built GSR, car has BKR7E resistor type plugs with good NGK plug wires.

When I apply pressure on the top ECU cover which then applies pressure to the S300 standoffs, the CEL pops on. It causes the fuel pump relay to flick on and off making the car surge and idle like crap, who knows what else is really happening. I removed the ECU cover and when I push on the standoff nearest the heat sink the CEL comes on. I checked all of the solder joints on the headers pins, all looks good, even tested it with the Hondata socket tester. The CEL goes away whenever I cycle the ignition. CEL seems to go away when I plug the laptop into it to start datalogging, maybe I’m moving the board and datalogging causes it to reset or something.

I will try swapping the S300 into another ECU later.

This would not be under wrranty, but you can send an email to support (at) hondata.com and include a detailed description of the problem and a link to this thread and we can give you details on issuing an RMA number to have it checked out. There will be a charge for this just so you are aware.

Whats the manufacture date on this one? When does the warranty start? It could have been sitting on the shelf of the local speed shop where I bought it for 3 years.

That is the most BS warranty I have ever read. Unusual stress? It's a computer chip that gets placed in the ECU never to be touched again, not a piston that sees thousands of pounds of pressure.
