AFR's spike to rich when shifting gears

Post by diSTiNCt »

So I have been doing research about my BOV (tial 50mm) and apparently it causes my MAP to read the air that is released from the BOV and then the ECU adds fuel thus causing the rich mixture when shifting.

Some people say that stand alones can fix this problem by way of changing the speed density and then venting to atmosphere. My question: can hondata do the same or is there a way to fix this issue?

CAR:
1996 Civic Ex

Block: 75mm Bore (Vitara Pistons + FJT rods)
Stock Head (rebuilt with all OEM Honda parts; recently installed OEM
plug wires, cap and rotor)
NGK BKR7e plugs gaped at .03
Edelbrock Turbo kit (GT28r turbo, performer X intake manifold, etc)
Walbro 190
Lucas 440s

None of that makes any sense. If we were on a M.a.f. then that would make sense. Sounds like a bad MAP to me.

weird board issue hondata, I type M.A.F. without the periods and it posts it as AFM.
thank you, thank you, I'm here all week

Hmmm...not much sense at all....

U dont change 'THE' speed/density,u change 'TO' speed/density.

But since u are already 'ON' speed/density then no need to change 'TO' speed/density.

Venting to atmo increases fuel overrun on MAF based systems, the pre-metered air dont see the motor, but the fuel does....

So whatever u were researching, try reading it in a mirror,it will make more sense.

edit:hey your right lol.....M.A.F. must be in the dirty word search,ah well Air Flow Meter it is then....

I apologize for not explaining things too well; here is a video/sound clip of what I am trying to explain:

(just listen from 1:50 to 2:28)

But thats what were trying to explain to u.

The evo is M.A.F. based,u are MAP based.

Speed/density is defined by engine speed vs air density, the air density being calculated from parameters of which one is your Manifold Absolute Pressure, which is obviously received from your MAP sensor.

Mr 'Dynoflash' is advising the owner against venting to atmo, like he is at present, or ,change to a speed/density based system(using a MAP & alternative engine management).

U can see the problem, the M.A.F. sensor(located before the BOV on that evo) is metering the air flow, but the BOV is venting a portion of that air that the ECU is informed of (during shifts) before it reaches the motor,so the Ecu is adding fuel to air that aint present.

Since u are already speed/density based, then that video is unrelated to your problem.

thanks fly_n, I didn't know the difference between a M.A.F. and M.A.P. sensor.
I will start looking for a new M.A.P. sensor and hope that solves my issue.
