Crx won't start - HELP!

Post by Boostin »

No spark, no fuel...
Throwing codes 6 (water temp sensor) and 10 (intake air temp sensor)

Install new sensors still no spark no fuel throwing 6 and 10...

Tried 2 different ecus - throws both codes 6 and 10

Help!? Any suggestions would be fanatic!

I am trying a new dizzy tomorrow morning...(cam angle sensor (spark/fuel))

I need help! cant figure out why it is throwing the water temp and air intake temp sensor codes...

Is there anyway to electrically test the plugs/sensors??

I am getting no electrical readings on either of those sensor plugs (2 wires each no reading on either terminal)...

Any help from anyone?

on some of the cars i had when 1 sensor went back it would cause the other one to throw a code.. But try the dizzy and let us know

Are we talkin obd1 conversion here?

If yes, where was the adaptions to the wiring made?
At the motor? At the shock tower plugs? Jumper Harness perhaps or maybe even whole obd1 EFI loom?

burmese makes a good point, both sensors share a common ground & also its shared with your TPS (& O2 sensor on obd1),any work done around the TPS(or O2 if obd1) at all?

Are u actually getting fault codes for the dizzy or is that just some random thing your trying?

Thanks for the replies guys...

yes, it was been swapped to obd1 from obd0...but that was 2 years ago (ran 3 weeks ago until my oil pump went out)

So i tore the whole motor down cleaned top to bottom put in a new oil pump, with all bottom end bearings....

swapped from t25 turbo to a t3t4...brand new ramhorn exhaust too! Pretty it is...

but I just tried a new dizzy...no luck...trying a new main relay today...

but yea, I am thinking (for the sensors) it is a ground...swapped a new water temp sensor no luck...just bought a new IAT sensor too (try that tonight)

how many grounds (for wiring harness/car) are there in a CRX?

there is 2 on the back thermostat (moved those around and added a ground to the chassis as well) still no sensors....

2 grounds for the block...2 grounds (1 for the harness and 1 for vtec on thermostat housing -> added a ground from that point to the chassis also)

I can log into the ECU with a laptop still (it that means anything)
but still won't start...no fuel/no spark...fuel pump does engage with key to on position...

Any suggestions would be amazing!

Thanks again guys...

If u can connect to the ecu/get fault codes/etc & the pump primes when u turn the key, then your main relay is fine, thats all it does is provide power to the EFI system & power to the fuel pump.

U didnt say how the wiring conversion was done? There is a number of common faults that occur with these conversions, depending how it is achieved, could lead u straight to the source....

U could have just upset one of the connections made to convert(if the conversions were made in the engine bay) when u pulled/installed the motor, even just doulble check u have actually plugged everything up,its not hard to overlook something if your not familiar with the system.

I had one of the local boys recently had a shocking job done on his obd1 to crx wiring conversion & it was throwing 6 & 10 & TDC as well, turned out it was just all the poor excuses for solder joints were broken &/or shorting together at the joins made at the shock tower plugs for the CKP/CYP swap & IAT/ECT wires being too short.

If u dont have fuel/spark,then do a quick test for 12V(when ignition on) on each of the injector clips & also the biggest wire going into the 2 pin dizzy plug.

What do u have to test with?

If u dont have a multimeter, than a cheap as u can find $10 or whatever meter will certainly cut down the time its gonna take to find the problem dramatically,if u want to fix it yourself & stop all the guess work, than go buy one now. Dont buy a test light, waste of time....

The grounding system for the EFI is very simple,as long as u have a good clean connection on the main strap(the one that runs battery>chassis>tranny on the crx) then everything else grounds to the thermostat housing(the double connection u speak of).

The thermostat housing grounds just run directly back to the ECU & make 4 connections at A23/A24(picking up main relay on the way) & A26/B2.

The IAT/ECT/TPS/O2 ground references the D22 pin at the ECU on obd1,so first thing would be to unplug the ECU & test this ground wire has good continuity(ie low resistance) & unbroken to each of those 4 sensors.

Each of the other wires connected to these 4 sensors runs directly back to the ECU,no tricks,no teeoffs,nothing... just a direct connection(except for 1 wire at the o2 sensor which is just a direct power feed off the injector circuit,if it shows 12V when u switch the ignition, then thats the wire im talking about). If there is anything else connected to these wires, then it will be aftermarket like an apexi RSM etc.

Anyway,im probably babbling on here.....first thing go staright for an alterations made to stock wiring or any work carried out around stock wiring....stock wiring is very reliable if not disturbed.

just swapped the new main relay in and now it gets fuel and spark...tries to start but thats it, just tries....

Both sensors are still throwing codes (6 and 10)...
just tried a new air intake temp sensor and no luck...

so the sensor issue has to be a ground....

I think once I figure out the sensor issue i think it will start and run...

getting closer! woot woot....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ohh ya, i have nearly every tool every needed...multimeter included

as of now I will be going through and testing the grounds at every location I can get too (ecu/sensors)...

I will keep you guys posted on how it goes

99% for sure it is a ground issue

Sweet!

Problem fixed and it was the grounds you mentioned!

Woohooo....

So bad relay and bad grounds were the culprits...

Datalog and tune all tomorrow!!

I am not even mad because I have a huge gain of knowledge after this one!

Thanks everyone again for the help!
