B16a swap in Civic ESI -93 (d16z6)

Post by stromman »

Hi....

My name is Daniel and I?m from Sweden and I have a huge problem.....

I know my English isn?t perfekt but I hope You understand...

I have a Civic G5 from -93 with the D16Z6 engien and OBD 1 P28 ECU and I?m doing a swap to the JDM B16A engien with OBD 0 PWO ECU from a CRX -91.

I have complete wiring systems and ECUs from both cars but i cant get any wiring diagrams from honda sweden or info how to do to make it work...

Do I need to use parts from both cars wiring or can I use the original wiring system and Ecu from the Civic together with the B16A engien and if this work how much of that wiring system fitts direct on the engien parts such as injektors and so on...

If I use the original OBD 1 P28 ECU to the B16a engien does the rev limit change to higher level and is the air/fuel mixture right for the B16a, sounds strange that the same CPU fits both engiens because the have different amount of power och rev...

Can you please help me with some info how to do this Swap.... I have already fixed the clutch and power-stering och so on.... And The NOS......

Hope you can help me... i?m a bit frustrated because it?s summer time soon and I dont have a car...

Thanks// Daniel Strom 8)

I'll try my best.

Personally, I would use the B16A engine with the wiring harness from your G5 Civic and the P28 OBD-1 ECU. This prevents you from having to do serious wiring changes.

Doing this you will need to put your Civic [D16Z6] injectors on the B16A. This prevents you from having to use a resistor box, because the B16A injectors are peak & hold [low impedance], and your civic requires saturated [high impedance] injectors. Another option would be to leave the peak and hold injectors on the B16A and to wire in the resistor box, but this is too much work in my opinion.

You are going to need to get a "grey plug," or OBD-1 distributor. Your civic [D16Z6] distributor might work with a little modification to the way it bolts to the engine if you cannot afford an OBD-1 B16 distributor.

Once you have the injectors and the distributor swapped, your D16Z6 wiring harness should plug directly to all the sensors and plugs on the motor. Again, you will be using the P28 ECU. There should be no issues with incorrect AFR's, and I'm not very sure about the rev limit.

If this wasn't helpful enough, try doing a SEARCH on www.honda-tech.com

Thanks.... that realy helped me alot. now I can continue with my swap... hope it works well.....

One more question: on my original d16z6 there is just one lambda meter in the exhaust , but in the B16a there is 2 of them, and different cables to... hmm...

I think thats all for now.... Hope I understand it all...

The P28 is only "looking" for one lambda meter, while the OBD-0 B16 computer is looking for two. Just use the P28 and one lambda meter [with the D16Z6 wiring harness] and you'll be set.
