S300, saving a tune?

Post by ash7 »

*I was curious if it is possible to "pull" a tune off of my current S300 equipped ecu and store it to my laptop?

The car was tuned on S300 just over a year ago, and has been running perfectly. I pulled off the turbo yesterday only to discover that it needs a little more than a rebuild as i had anticipated on doing right then. I went ahead and ordered the parts from turbonetics, and they'll be here in a couple weeks. In the meantime, since i have to drive this car to work during the week, is it possible to pull the tune off of the ecu(pct) and store it on my laptop? I'd like to run a tune that would be closer to what the engine requires without a turbo, instead of keeping the same tune while the car is NA for this short amount of time. From my understanding, uploading a new program to the S300 unit would erase the current tune i have.

Any help, or advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

The best thing u can do is try to contact the person who did the tune & see if u can just get them to email u a copy of the calibration file.

If that fails,& as a last resort, then yes it is possible to "pull"(Download) the current calibration from the ECU,but nobody will guarantee it will be 100% successful. It seems to work ok most of the time from what i've seen.

It is a small possibility the cal file could be corrupted when u download,so best to err on the side of caution when u re-upload the downloaded file & just monitor & confirm the state of the tune before just jumping straight on the gas & hoping for the best, especially with a boosted motor.

If u cant test & confirm it yourself, then i would probably take the car down the nearest shop & ask if they could just load it on the dyno & give it a quick once-over.

I suspect downloading the file to different versions of the software to what was originally used to tune could increase the possibility of corruption, but im not sure & that is a question for hondata.

To download,
Just connect to the ECU & turn key to IGN on/Engine off.
Then if the ECU shows as "Online",go to the Online Menu at top of screen & simply select "Download" & wait for it to finish.
Then just do a Save As on the cal file that is now open in Smanager.

Personally,i would only reuse the parameters/settings from the downloaded file (not just re-upload the same file), if they seemed to look ok & copy them all over to a new calibration started from the latest version of Smanager, its only a few minutes extra work.

100 point for fly-N
For my self
Maybe I just print out the calibration
OR
Take a few pieces paper and mark it down
Instead of Downloding
FILE COULD CORRUPTED !
