CEL will still light in presence of a fault, but ability to check code,im not sure....
Smanager will display the fault number & tell u what the code is,no need to count flashing lights & look up code numbers anymore.

im at work atm,so cant really simulate a fault for u & tell u if CEL will still flash codes but im beginning to think that it actually will still do it,maybe hondata can answer this one in the meantime....

that works for me as long as the light comes on with fault present and i can check with Smanager.

Really appreciate your time and allowing me to pick your mind.

Thanks

the EGR input u are thinking of is D12 & i just had a look & its not available.it is an analogue input in any case, usually used for WB's/fuel pressure/EGT/etc.

only 6 input options come up
-A/C switch
-power steer
-brake switch
-vtec pressure switch
-service check connector
-always on(i assume this will switch according to engine parameters, but not sure)

its not hard to sacrifice one of these, usually at least one of the luxuries is missing on a modded car,if not just use the SCS connector input since u can set timing & check fault codes with Smanager anyway.

it sounds like u have not got a copy of Smanager, just download it(its free & not very large file) & just open up one of the "new calibrations" in it & have a play around, that will probably answer a lot of your questions & u can get familiar with the software before u start tuning.
I posed this question to Hondata and i was told I believe the same thing. They said i need to use the datalog feature to check the codes! I emailed them back asking if that means i need to turn on the data logger feature? i was under the impression with Smanager i can open the software and check for the faults? is this possible?

I finally got the motor back together so ill be playing with the Smanager soon but wont be for a week till i get the turbo on as well.

Thanks again

Not sure if i understand your question, but,

Using Smanager software & datalogging are one & the same thing.
U need Smanager to read the datalogs.

To read a fault code(or "error code" as it appears in Smanager) from the ECU,with an S300 onboard it can be done in 3 ways,

1. Jump SCS connector & read from CEL(MIL) on dash,so long as SCS input is not reassigned(see below).

2. Open Smanager software on your PC while connected to ECU & live datalog the motor, then read the error code(if present) under the "Error Codes" tab.

3. Have onboard datalogging enabled on the S300 & later download the stored datalog in Smanager & any error codes will be logged (if they happened),again, under the "Error Codes" tab.

I did a quick fault sim on my car out of interest when u asked & a shorted SCS connector will not flash fault codes on the CEL if the SCS input is reassigned to another function, this just leaves u to only be able to read the fault in Smanager.

Ok it's making more sense now. Not being familiar with the software you will have to excuse me and the verbiage.

When you tested the fault Sim the codes did not flash on the check engine light in the dash but the CEL still came on indicating some error correct? So with option 2 and 3 basically i would have to datalog while the motor is running then check for faults. I was under the impression once i opened the software it's reading the ecu on the fly and i can just read the code. Not a problem i can do a quick log and get the code that works for me.
