**Fixed** s300 runs perfect one day then cranks no start.

Post by OSracer »

I read the cold start thread I dont think its related.
this is the 2nd time.. with 2 s300s I dont think its a s300 related issue but I wanted some expert knowledge.

B20/Vtec with Crower 402 and accel 255cc INJ 12:1 CR

P28 USD ECU

Long story short- Got the car from a friend who had a "Bad" Accell DFI it kept losing its programming. Picked up 2 s300s with a friend needing one. Set it up as a LS/Vtec adjusted Fuel trim and it Fired right up ! "Perfect" let sit for 2 days and when to move the car all it does is crank..... snagged my friends s300 uploaded the same calibration and it fired up again. worked on the car all day, parked it over night same symptom.

All the car does is crank. I smell fuel I have spark and the 12:1 CR checks out as 265-275 on all cylinders.

Now I realize that this "issue" seems to be in the car but what could it be? Since 3 different stand alone system seem to be having the same problem.... EPROM loses programming.

Try the ECU on a different car. There is nothing specific that would cause an s300 to loose programming. You need to check each fuel injector for actual fuel. All an engine needs to start is fuel, spark and air.

Did some deep thinking here at work only thing I can think is the ignition switch is so loose that if you turn the key into the off position it beeps as normal that the key is in the ignition but if you push the key in the beeping stops like the car thinks the key has been removed.

I will be pulling the p28 out and putting it in my stock 95 hatch with a stock p28 baseline disabling the vtec to see what it does tonight.

I am also going to perform a parasitic leakage test on the car to see if I can determine some strange draw to the system.

Also I notice the ground strap from the head to chassis is mounted to the PS pump bracket so I will add an additional ground.

As for Fuel the plugs get soaked and flooded and I have spark I tested that with a spare plug and had the wife crank the car.

Fuel Check
Spark Check
Compression 265-275 PSI per cylinder.

I swapped the s300 out of one ECU to another so I know the ECU is intact its the board losing programming. I think I need a new license plate holder (aka Chassis) after an Accell DFI and 2 s300s I just hope they are ok.

Will keep you updated thanks for the response. Its been almost 10 years since I had a toy.

Good News the s300 is fine I plugged it in my 95 dx hatch and fired it up it did not like the fuel trim for a b20 Vtec and choked itself out in a few seconds.

Now to trouble shoot the car since I have no CEL...

AIC soliniod click locks and whines with a high pitch is that normal?
Also thinking the coil in the dist may be shot not enough spark. Any Ideas?

TIA

PS maybe some one can move this topic to the Non Hondata section since we now know its not the issue.

Stupidity at its best running too rich fouls spark plugs...

Swapped out my plugs and it runs fine Never thought to check because they were brand new plugs only run for about an hour at idle

depending on how long you attempted to start that motor, your oil might have quite abit of gas in it. Also, if you try and start a motor for a while, you can wash the cylindor walls down, which requires a very small amount of oil to be poured down the spark plug hole to revive the cylindor walls.

hope the engine is working good, post up a datalog and calibration.
