Hi there,
a friend of mine asked me to check out some questions he has about the Kpro stuff, he's english isn't very good so he explained me earlier today what his questions and concerns are.
I tried to find an answer here on the boards myself, but since I'm not an engine/electronics expert, I believe I'm forced to pop the question, so here goes :
my friend drives an civic ep3 type r and he's looking to buy a Kpro to mount in his ecu.
He heard there might be a problem when you want to remove the Kpro afterwards, the problem would have be concerning the keycode and the imobiliser unit.
To be very specific : if he buys a Kpro, installs it in his ecu... and after some time he decides to go on without the Kpro, will he have problems? Rumours told him he wouldn't be able to start his engine anymore and that we would have to buy a whole new ECU for this car.
Is this correct?
I suppose this must be something that can be solved?
The problem in our country is that no engine mods are allowed. So if the cops somehow find out about some mods, they have to be removed. So we just want to make sure that, if we remove the Kpro from his car, he can sell the Kpro to somebody else and return driving with his standard ECU.
Can somebody please confirm if this is possible?
I hope my explanation makes sense...
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Dries

thank you for this information.
Then we need to consider the following situation :
suppose my friend has to go back to a stock ECU and he finds a buyer for the Kpro, can they switch ECU's?
Will my friends car work on the stock ECU from the buyer after removing the ECU with KPRO? And will the buyers car work with the ECU/KPRO from my friend?
Thanks again for your support.

The best way for you friend to do this is to buy another ecu with K-Pro already installed, and disable the immobilizer in the software. He can then plug his stock ecu back in whenever he needs to.
