Ignition Break up

Post by FreshDA9 »

Ok i was on the dyno with my car and arounf 5,500 and up rpm my ignition goes crazy and breaks up. i got the dyno graph and my datalog and bin for someone to take a second look.

-Car 91 Integra with B18B and Hydro Tranny NA I/H/E.
-Stock LS Dizzy with NGK wires and Honda NGK plugs. Have tried multiple different gaps.

What are the NGK's from honda? heat range and are they resistor? possibly maybe a ignitor or coil going out? owner of the dyno shop says it sounds like its floating a valve, should i do another valve adjustment.

Im just curious if i missed something in a map before i start going threw coils ignitors.

here's the checklist I go through anytime a cust has issues like this on the dyno:
1. ngk bkr7e (at least) gapped 25-30.
2. honda wires or ngk...anything else we change and see if it goes away.
3. honda cap and rotor...check to see if there is a badly burt spot on the rotor or if the cap looks bad inside.
4. msd?...change back to stock temporarily to see if it's faulty. stock honda ignition is pretty good up to 400 or so without issues.

if it's ignition related this usually takes care of it. if not then you'll need to provide additional info.

do a quick test on the coil
pull the cap, rotor & cover off & test the secondary winding from HT post to + terminal, see if its getting down around that lower 13kohm limit, should be up 16-17+kohm if its healthy.
test your primary winding while your in there from + to - terminal, should be around 0.7ohm

will give it a shot.

im having the same situation on my car. breaks up around 5500 rpm. plugs gapped to 26. using bkr7e's. installed new rotor. cap looks good. swapped wires but didnt change anything. using ngk wires now. swapped coil to a known good coil.

still having problems.

anyone have any ideas?
