Force fan not operating correctly?
Force fan not operating correctly?
Hello Hondata, Sorry to be a pest but my fan doesn't come on at the set temp. I have it set at on 194 and off 190 but the fan still doesn't come on until 214. Any ideas? Do you need a data log of this along with the calibration?
Ok. well I figured out a few temp settings that work. At 185 on and 180 off the fan will activate at 201 and shut off at 194. If you set it at 179 and off at 175 the fan activates at 198 and off at 192. If you set it at 189 and off at 185 it activates at 205 and off at about 196-198. I have mine set at 185 and off at 180. My car idles so much better and I get no ghost knock at all now. It keeps me from having to pull that few degrees of timing in cylinder 2. Well the fan control and the addition of the ECT vs Ignition table. Most of my knock was from the coolant temps being way too high for boost. At least that is what I noticed anyway.
The fan control is fairly complex - there are two fan speeds, which activate both on coolant temperature and AC pressure. The fans switch off at about 30 mph as they reach their stall speed.
The fan temperature control uses the second water temperature sensor to determine when the fan comes on. This sensor is in the bottom of the radiator, so gives the temperature of the coolant returning to the engine. Thus the fan will come on when the water returning to the engine is 199F, rather than the water exiting the engine reaches 199F. That explains the ~5 degree difference.
I will try using the cylinder head temperature sensor for the fan control and see if this works better.
