Launch Control 95 GSR lightly modded

Post by GSRalive »

Hey all, I am new here and I have a few questions to get started with the S300. I just got a dyno tune yesterday, and I put out 166 WHP and 135 WTQ.

I now want to setup launch control, but need a little help. I have been doing some research and read all about the S300 in the HELP section of the program provided on the CD.

Can someone just run me through on what I need to do.
(Example)
Step 1: hook up the laptop to the ECU and turn on ignition
Step 2: Download current info from ECU to laptop.

This is where I am stuck? I do not know if I need to download all of the current info from my ECU that was tuned yesterday, then make the changes to the launch control, save the calibration to my laptop and then upload it to the ECU.

OR

Can I just plug the laptop to the ECU, make changes to the launch control and NOT download any info from the ECU. Then upload the changes to launch control to my car?

As you can see I am in the dark a little, and do not want to just jump right into this and screw something up.

Thanks!

It is best to never download from the ECU unless you have completely lost your calibration.

You should have the file saved on your hard drive some where. It you do not have it saved yet, contact yoru tuner and have them email it to you.

You must have the calibration loaded in to the software in order to make changes and upload it to the ECU.

Oh, oops. Well, on another forum I am on they said to hook the computer up to the car, download the current info, then make changes and upload. That is what I did and everything seems just fine. I set up the launch control and it all works just like it is suppose to.

Why is it not a good idea to download from the ECU? Do you think I wrecked anything at all?

Also, with the computer plugged into the ECU and the car running, I am unable to get any sensor readings (i.e TPS %) How do I activate the sensors, or how do I activate my computer/ECU so I can see everything displayed on my computer?

Thanks for your response!

There is always a chance the calibration my get corrupted when downloading from the ECU.

You must click on the datalogging button (lightning bolt or F10) to begin datalogging.

Okay, I figured out how to get readings.

Well, the car seems to run just fine.

Do you think I should still try to get the calibrations from my tuner and "re-load" them back to the ECU just to be on the safe side?

Thanks a lot for your help! You've answered some questions that I've looked for the answer all over and could not find them!

EDIT: Would I know from driving the car now if I did change the calibration at all from downloading it from my ECU to my laptop?

Thanks!

It is impossible to say, best bet would be to contact the tuner for the calibration just to be safe and always keep a copy in a safe place.
