romulator problems
romulator problems
I just bought the emulator last week and am having problems with it. i connect it to the serial caBLE, open romeditor, click file-settings then the emulation tab, Transtronics Romulator is selected in the box and is set on com1. I load the map into romeditor (bin file). connect the romulators ribbon cable to the ECU (red stripe closest to the wire harness) / turn the key to ig on position without starting the car and upload the rom to the emulator by pressing both ctrl+w. a screen appears stating its uploading and disappears without saying anything like "sucessful" so I assume it went and proceed to the next step. turn the key off / then back on to verify the red light to stay solid on the S200 box and it flashes slowly. I reinserted everything and still cant get it to be solid light. Anyone else have this problem? In windows 98, under device manager for com1, I tried disabling fifo buffers that didn't matter/ flow control to 'none' that didnt either. all stated, in romeditor/emulator TAB/ 'emulator connected' regardless but still got the error message 'cannot open emulator'
Its new emulator from hondata, could the battery in it be dead and give these results?

Let us isolate the problem first.
Dou you have the ROmulator software? If you have the romulator software then it is better to test it there first. Check of the software will upload and download data correctly.
Secondly, what version of Romeditor are you using? You never mention buying the ROmeditor. If you bought one already then access the user area and download the latest version. If you do not have access to the user area and you have bought one, then call Hondata and ask for a user name and password. You should be using version 3.5.3 by now.

yes I have the romulator software current version. I also have the latest rom editor V3. just got the cd last week from hondata. So I assume its the latest. I will verify that later. im 99% sure though. I didn't access the Hondata User Area yet. Thanks for the tip. I will contact Hondata and get a user ID and see if theres an updated version. I will reply again later tonight.
Thank You for your answer.

I think your laptop is kinda not up to the task. I think you need a better laptop. Mine is a cheapo LEO pentium4 with 2.4GHz and 56RAM.
Okay heres a test.
After installing Romeditor version 3.5.3, Connect the Romulator to the laptop. Do not connect it to the ECU yet.
Run the ROMeditor software.
Go the the settings menu and set the Romulator as emulator type.
Set the correct serial port.
After setting the emulator type and serial port, the staus should read something like Transtronic 1.20 (Connected).
The romulator has a small LED near the serial port. It should be lit when everything is in good order.
Hope this helps.

yes it does. After calling Hondata about it last night.. We came to the conclusion that my laptops com port is faulty. I will try another laptop and see. I will post in here later this week as to what my outcome is. Otherwise keep troubleshooting. This is worse than Microsoft!

Well. 3 laptops later no luck. Hondata tech sup wasn't much help at all anyways. I work IT Helpdesk for 3 years and I troubleshoot 20 more things then they asked to check myself. Spent 14,000 on this engine and I think the worst is the hondata unit. shoulda bought a MoTeC. bullshit mechanics around here who think they know hondata blow engines every week. crap

Due to the complexity of trouble shooting this issue and the fact that all trouble shooting to date has failed, you have 2 options. Contact transtronics for a repalcment Romulator and see if htat resolves the issue, or send the laptop, romulator, ecu and Hondata system to us and we can then test it and make sure everything is setup correctly.
Have you also verified that the rom image you are downloading to the emulator works when burned to a chip?

Hondata
QUICKSILVER RACING, Thanks for your help and time. Hondata, I believe the unit must be faulty. I will contact them and make arragements for an exchange. I would like to apologize for my heated recent post. I am so bulls**t because noone around where I live knows how to program this, and I am paranoid I may be detonating a bit the more I drive. The only way to tell and to stop this bucking I get at part throttle is to get datalogging and romulator to work to prove its timing or fuel or something else. Both dont work. According to Hondata, My serial number does have datalogging enabled. So I am suspicious the S200 box (which is 4 weeks new) could be at fault for that and possibly the romulator too?
Could the S200 interface box cause these symptoms if it were corrupt?

I think I'm going to send mine back too, let me know if the new romulator fixes the problem, everything you've had happen, I have too. I purchased my set up last week, and everything works well, except the romulator. All software is up to date, emulations tab shows everything is connected. But the ctrl-W download just disappears. My laptop is XP and plenty powerful for any applictation. Let me know when you get your new romulator and if it fixed your problem.
