Starting problem! Hondata red led.

Post by leandro_wez »

The problem is intermittent and it's occurs more when the engine is cold.

I turn on the ignition and the MIL light stays on, hondata shows red led and the car won't start because there is no fuel in the line..

So I have to wait until it's turns green... sometimes it simply don't shows green light..

When the car is hot, I turn the ignition, hondata works well and the MIL turns off right after the fuel pump pressurize the fuel line, then the car starts normally...

- My ECU is a P28 converted from AT to MT

- My car is an 96-98 Si B16A2.

- I'm from brazil and I'm running on ethanol

- The map is "pre-map" I'm waiting for the new injectors, so no-vtec by now...

I would be glad if you can help me with this little problem and I'm open to suggestions on my calibration!

Thanks and sorry about the bad English...

Intermittent problems when the car is cold aften is from a bad solder joint in the ECU. Open the ECU up, and touch up the solder joints for the 28 pin socket and latch, if you can. If you can't post photos of the soldering and someone should be able to tell you if that is the cause of the problem.

I did it and I could say that's better now... It's still a little slow, I'll be testing it now and I'll post the results here.

And my map, have someone looked at it? I would thank a lot if someone can say if I'm walking at the right directions!

Hondata, thanks for the advice!

Greetings from brazil!

same problem on my 97 gsr

Post by kerala »

Hey, Im having the same exact problem and it seemed that I would sit for a minute or two before it "primes the pump" and the led on the s300 would turn green allowing me to turn over the car.

I am now having to wait longer when it rains or outside temp drops. I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but I am waiting much longer.

I changed my relays and discovered one was bad, but the other two test properly, but Im not sure exactly how the ECU operates in cooperation with the relay.

Hopefully we can figure this out soon!!!

Hey, I found the problem.

It were the capacitors, I changed all the old capacitors on the ECU by new ones.

Have a look at this page:
http://www.hondata.com/tech_capacitor_obd1.html

That's why I've decided to look at the capacitors with an magnifying glass!

Try that!

Find my problem as well

Post by kerala »

Hey I found my personal problem with the ECU was a cold solder joint on the ECU.. Im assuming. There is a possibility that the vibrations of the car caused this. I looked at the ECU, but I personally go look for ECU's at the junk yard on civics wrecked with less than 60k on them. Im glad to see the post about the caps though... I'll start looking out for that on faulty boards.

The car is priming up fine and working great.... so far.. lol

Two days good... third day bad.. Car will not prime over again.. seems Im going to have to bust open my ecu again. I'm expecting that the shop I went to chip my ECU might have rushed the job.. I sent it back but it seems it will be back again....
