Romulator question

Post by CivicVTi »

Is it possible to leave the romulator permanently connected to the ECU? I have the latest version of it which has a built in 3v battery to keep in memory the bin file. I was thinking to apply a constant 3v voltage to it (through the car battery or even a pair of alcaline AAs) so as to have the romulator always in the car and make changes on the fly without having to remove the ECU all the time. Any comments?

I leave my Romulator pluged in all the time and have not had any problems, i've had it in there since i got it which has been about 6 months. I have occasionally left it for 2 days with out turning it on and it has always still had my maps on it.
Whenever you turn your ignition on the romulator recarges it's battery, it gets power from the ecu.

I don't think it recharges it. It's a cell battery. I think it lasts for a year or so. So this is why you can still use it. I was thinking that a pair of alcaline AAs would last at least 4-5 years without ever having to worry about it.

I've left mine for weeks without turning the car on, works fine every start, i got a couple of spare cell batteries in the glove box and have an old crappy laptop in the car incase the romulator battery runs out, just pop a new battery in and upload the rom again, sweet for another year :)

Would be better if I could have a copy of my bin on my palmpilot and upload it to the romulator via that instead of a laptop... (maybe a good option to build into the Hondata palm software? :))
