Wrong version of SManager?

Post by FactionR »

I just installed an s300 in my friends 99si with a stock bottomend b18a with the b16 head. Now i tried uploading a map in using my laptop (which worked fine with my s300) and was able to upload a map but not datalog or connect and it ran like it was in limp mode. thinking it was the questable ecu we swapped everything over to a virgin p28 and now i cant connect or upload at all. The whole time the led light has been red. I then found in the bottom of his box a note talking about using "older" versions of SManager with the s300 and it not working. Im wondering if this is the issue?

I used version 1.3.8 and downloaded and tried 1.4.1 and it is not working. im lost here, any help would be great!

Open smanager, go to File, New and choose one of hte base calibrations listed and upload to the ecu. When it finishes, turn the key off and then back on and try dataloggin without the engine running.

Spunkster I think you misunserstood him, When we installed it on my p72, the ECU had a solid red light with a blinking Green one, It accepted maps but would not datalog! So I bought a Virgin P28, and When FactionR installed it it won't even connect to the Ecu now, with a solid red light! He used version 1.3.8 and downloaded and tried 1.4.1 neither worked... Any ideas?

assuming you mean datalog by connect, it should. Have you tried it?

No, the ecu is at his house, and he's doing something else today, I think he will explain it better when he gets home, All I'm understanding from what he says is the it won't connect to the Ecu.

When I got the "Blue box" it had the softwear, I didnt want to use it because I dont have a labtop yet, and FactionR already had s300, so I asked him to install it. He already had it on his notebook and we went from there.. Could using older softwear affect the chip or damage anything? :/ this is just frustrating

correct, the s300 will not connect at all. i cant upload/datalog at all. windows has an icon that pops up saying that the usb device i have connected has malfunctioned and needs to be replaced.

Right click on that in the device manager and uninstall it. Reboot then allow it to install automatically when you plug in the s300.

ok, it doesnt show up in device manager, but when the key is on the on position, a box pops up that says that the device malfunctioned. by clicking on that box it brings up a usb port manager that shows what is plugged in, and that shows an unknown device.

I was able to uninstall the driver by going to the "change settings" and uninstall. I did this and rebooted. When i tried again, two bowes popped up one saying it malfunctioned, the other saying it was installing the driver. The box then indicated it had installed a driver on the unknown device, it never called it "s300".

After all this im still not able to connect at all...

what im really wanting to know is what "too old" of a version Smanager will render these newer units unusable.

The unit came with a warning on using older versions, i didnt think my august 2008 version was that old and first uploaded maps to it in the first ecu we had it in. now that we are getting nothing im wondering if its going to have to be sent back.
