suggestion for diagnostic on a k-pro?

Post by ant »

I work at SpeedTech Calgary, AB, Canada as their Tuner.

Information:
- serial number of your K-Pro : 549
- KManager version (not 'the latest') : V1-3-5-1
- what sort of vehicle you have : RSX type S
- what sort of ECU you are using : stock RSX type S with k-pro upgrade
- modification: : cams, intake, header, exhaust

Problem:
The K-pro ecu was working as of October 2008. The RSX was put away for winter. Following the first week of March 2009 out of storage.

Problem:

o The RSX will only crank and then ECU fuse is blown
o K-Pro will not communicate with user's notebook in his RSX (unresponsive).

What I have diagnoised:
[SpeedTech Calgary, AB, Canada]

o ECU harness stock and untouched

o Using our inhouse Tuning notebook I verify I can not connect to K-Pro on his RSX (RSX-A).

o Kpro removed from owners car - reconnected into a working RSX (RSX-B)
(a) Kpro communicates, no CEL codes are present, Uploading tune ok

(b) Using RSX-A KPro and re upload his tune to his car. The same problems occurs in his car (RSX-A).
o Using his Kpro (RSX-A) and uploading the same tune used in RSX-B to start RSX-B:
-- RSX-B will not start; crank only
-- No ECU blown fuse
-- Fuel Pump is not herd to prime

o Have also utilized erase function [Describe the erase feature]

Looking over the wiring on RSX-A there is nothing out of the ordinary as the harness has not been altered. The vehical only has bolt on modifcation (Header, exhaust....). What are you reccomendations for diagnostic?

Have you tried swapping the K-Pro boards from one ecu to the other?

Okay, If I take the Kpro board (I call it Kpro board A) which is from the ecu of the customer's car (RSX A) and put it in the ecu from RSX B. Everything works fine. I can upload/change/datalog/start car B.

Please be reminded that RSX B is a working vehicle that I use to diagnose the problem on the customer’s car RSX A.

If I put the Kpro board from RSX B and put it in stock ECU A and then also test on RSX B, I cannot connect to Kpro with laptop nor start the car.

So, it seems to me that the Kpro board from the customer’s car is working fine, but his stock ecu isn’t. Does it sound like that he need to new stock ecu and have it prepared for his kpro board? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Yes this sounds like a problem with the ECU. Please call us and make reference to this post in the forum and we can give you an RMA number and further instructions.
